Guys,
just seen this on the 0.6.0 thread:
"Unfortunately, we wanted to get support for the HiFiBerry in this release too, but there are issues and this will have to wait for the next release."
This is a bit of a killer for me as I have everything else working, are there ANY USB Optical cards out there that WILL work with PI2 and rasplex?
Look like Im going back to my Media player otherwise which is a real shame as I love Rasplex and cannot afford to buy an HDMI AV Amp/Speaker yet.

You could always run a real Linux on a Cubox and load PlexHT on it. OpenELEC should work too.
Mastoul,
In my shopping basket as we speak, cheers will give is a go, I bet I lose all my CEC support though....

No you don't lose CEC support. Is CEC pass through and I am currently using CEC with samsung anynet+ and works like a charm ! It's the perfect solution. It doesn't have to do with the Pi at all. It takes the signal from HDMI and split Audio and video. You can choose if you like 5.1 audio passthrough or stereo.

Cheers Mastoul,
Ordered last night will update with how I get on.

Guys,
the box work like a dream, 5.1 sound out to optical, but has i suspected CEC no longer works after i turn the TV off, I have to restart the PI2 from the shell, any suggestions?.

Also give more info about your setup. I use RPi 2 with rasplex kwiboo's version with Samsung 2010 model and everything works great. Maybe rasplex 0.51 has issues with CEC. Try kwiboo's version until the 0.6 version is out. It's way too fast and responsive than 0.51 and has less bugs (it's compiled with openelec 5.01, rasplex 0.51 is compiled with openelec 0.3.1)
Mastoul,
It is a Panasonci Viera, cannot remeber model, I will check when I get Home, CEC worked fine befor the HDMI/Optical Spliter, It I turned of the TV , when I switched back onRasplex would comeback up at the login/PIN screen, select user and enter PIN and back in. No when I turn the TV back on it display the Login/PIN screen but no response from remote.

P.S, running PI2 with Rasplex 0.51, nothing else, 5v 2 amp PSU from PIHUT, it could be the HDM! cable I have had to use, I will try that tonight.
Ok,
Update: lost 5.1 to the amp. tried new cables, re-flashed a fresh system, then read this:
I had to edit the config.txt file on Rasplex to get it to work, because the Pi identifies the TV at start-up as an analogue-device so there is no digital output possible. "hdmi_force_edid_audio=1" in config.txt did the job for me!
This seemed to have worked back to 5.1 surround, but soon as I tune the TV of and then back on I loose CEC remote, keyboard still works, reboot the Pi2 and back to working CEC. Now I did have this fixed before I inserted the HDMI Toslink splitter. TBH it is driving me nuts here. I have alos added the follwing to my config.txt:
# Force HDMI even if unplugged or powered off
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
# Doesn't sent initial active source message.
# Avoids bringing CEC (enabled TV) out of standby and channel switch when
# rebooting.
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
I have a Panasonic Viera txl55wt50, any help would be great, as a plan B i have a FLIRC IR arriving tomorrow, will this work?
PS. Even if I change source on the TV to SAT and then back to HDMI1 (plex) I lose the remote
What I do on my TV (samsung) when I change source is to choose the anynet+ (CEC) discovered device instead of the HDMI were my Pi is connected. This way I everytime the CEC works. I don't now if Panasonic have the same functionality. Also I keep my Pi always on, no need to power off. Maybe is the compatibility with panasonic models strange. With samsung I had no issues. Keep in mind that I use rasplex kwiboo's version and not the official 0.5.1. try it out as it uses the latest kernel of openelec.
Mastoul,
Thanks for the advice, I'm going to use the Flirc IR when it arrives, to many unknowns and inconsistencies with CEC, everything else works fine.
I just hope I don't get any issues with Flirc, on another note what was a cheap option has now cost me 80-90 quid....
I had issues with the FLIRC as well as CEC, so went the traditional IR route on my Panny. After a few tweaks, it works great!

Robert, what do you mean traditional route, is Flirc not a IR, do I need to buy something else?.
Sorry, it is. I meant using LIRC with Linux/OpenELEC. FLIRC is self-contained and looks to the box as a USB keyboard. In theory it works great and is a cool idea, and it might work for you, but I didn't have much luck. Had double-key presses and stuck keys quite a bit. Also by using an IR receiver on the GPIO, it made my Pi case look cleaner. Nothing sticking out of it. But since you're entertaining optical support anyway, that shouldn't be an OCD problem for you. :)

It was either HDMi/Optical Splitter or 500- 1000 on a new AV amp and speakers, which will happen soon, (when the missus isn't looking...) TBH the spend isn't the issue, I want the same easy experience for all the family, daughter has a PS4 with Plex, Son has an IMac with Plex, Main TV PI2 with Plex, I will probably get another PI2 for the Bedroom TV. I have a lot of HD movies and TV series on the Synology NAS so it all work well, kids are never short of something to watch...
Thanks again for your help, I will let you know how I get on with the FLIRC
