As you are running linux, the settings need to be added to Preferences.xml (whilst the server is shutdown) and the you would need to locate the path for the trancoder Cache/Sessions directories
Do you have channels that persistently repro the problem? Does the problem only arise for channels that have descriptive audio streams?
So run with debug logging enabled on the server and with the extra diagnostic settings outlined.
Launch Plex Media Server after getting the settings in place and record an airing that reproduces the problem - you can run with DVR setting to allow partial records so you can cancel a recording after 10 minutes so that we do not end up with massive files
Also include zip of the .ts file in the set of diagnostics you make available
and indication of recording times and what audio streams / languages were missing
I generated some diagnostics this morning. I hope it will be helpfult to resolve the issue.
99% of the time this occurs on the same channel - Fox 36 in Toledo, OH. This channel broadcasts a 5.1 english audio stream and an additional descriptive audio. Neither was recorded in this case, although sometimes it records just the descriptive audio, which is often empty.
Most of the time I get both recordings and occasionally plex will select the descriptive audio by default.
Diagnostics are here:
These are from a linux server, if that makes a difference.
We do have an open issue relating to channels with descriptive audio. I will have a look at the diagnostics and refer to the development team once I checked it
Was this just Live TV on DVR channel 36.1 as opposed to a recording resulting in an incorrect .ts file with missing audio stream ?
You mention time of start at 09:16 am on the 27th and time of issue at 09:16 - exactly what was the issue this time round?
The logs show the channel being tuned at 09:15:17 and 09:16:30 and 09:23:01
The transcoder sessions files relate to the 09:16:30 tune. What was the outcome?
The start of time was the approximate time that I tuned the Station, and the time of issue was when the issue of “no sound” started. Of course, if/when I get no sound it starts immediately when tuning or recording a channel.
The outcome in this case was no audio stream being tuned.
I have another set of data that I captured this morning with a dvr recording. I am uploading that to dropbox now with the .ts file included. Once it is finished uploading I will share it.
Just got time to look into those issues of reccording with no sound and live viewing with no sound and found this thread. I am in canada, I mostly reccord only on the Radio canada channal here and there some show and like the annual end of the year show to start watch it when we are ready… Yesterday was that nigh…

I would like to know which of these is the .ts file you provided - because I need to match the correct sessions directories to it
The date stamp for the ts file you provided shows for me as 30 December 13:33:09
It is possible the timestamp is lost when uploading to dropbox
If it was zipped, it would have probably retained the correct last modified date/time
I was just recording a few minutes at a time until I got one that had no sound, so it would have been the last one recorded. I didn’t think to mention that, sorry.
Thanks - Do you still have the ts files for the earlier attempts as I think we have the transcoder sessions files for them - have not checked if we have all the other 3 attempts
I will have a development build available that is expected to fix the issues caused by presence of Descriptive Audio stream within the DVR channel streams.
I can make this available to anyone experiencing the issue of loss of sound on Live TV or recordings to have the fix confirmed
If you are willing to try the build, please let me know the platform details and build/binary required
Following some user testing, we have released the changes in the latest beta release
1.31.0.6654-02189b09f
(DVR) Some audio or subtitle streams could fail to be captured on channels with multiple audio or subtitle services (#13908) (#13877)
I would like to follow up what issues remain after updating to this release. We have confirmation now that recordings do have all audio streams with the fix.
If there are still issues with incorrect audio or missing audio - please capture the diagnostics outlined earlier here and give details with times of tests and channels and if DVR Live TV or Recordings
I had the same issue, no sound for channel 13.1 ABC Lynchburg, VA. Upgrading to 1.31.0.6654 fixed the sound issue for my Plex server. My server is Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS.
