Hi, just wondered if you had got anywhere with this and if Plex are investigating why HD channels cannot be tuned?
Any update on this please?
I seem to always get a picture, but am getting the no sound issue on HD recordings. Any updates on this?
I have not heard back from @NDInnovations - we will need to reproduce the issue
could it be ATSC 3.0 broadcasts ?
if not, would need the diagnostics outlined here No Picture or No Sound on HD broadcast recordings (sometimes)! - #29 by sa2000
plus indication if this applies to specific channels only? if also applies to DVR Live TV Streaming and details of zip code / channel number / channel title
OK, if I can assist let me know and we can open a new thread as itās a tuning problem
This seems to apply to specific channels, 13.1 KCPQDT (Fox Entertainment). How do I tell if its an ASTC 3 broadcast?
Iāve had similar problems with the audio on DVR recordings so I thought that I would jump in here.
RabbitEars.Info gives station info in your area. In the station listings it would have a green arrowhead in the space next to the state if it was a ATSC 3.0 station. 13.1 KCPQ is not a ATSC 3.0 station.
I have a temporary work-around that gets my audio back.
You can check it out here: Debugging lack of recorded or LiveTV Audio on a single station in my market - #17 by darganbright56
After completing this procedure I have full audio on Live TV and on DVR recordings.
Completing updates to the PMS, adding files, or deleting files will often bring back the no audio issue and I have to repeat the whole workaround process.
The whole audio issue seems to be timed along with the roll-out of the Descriptive audio track requirement that the FCC is making TV broadcasters implement. The FCC is still in the process of rolling it out in more markets and it seems that this may be somehow tied into the audio issues in Plex.
13.1 KCPQ transmits audio in DD5.1 and has a secondary audio track which is probably taged as English Descriptive or Spanish Descriptive. This would probably have been rolled out sometime this year.
Iām only seeing the issue with stations that are broadcasting more than one audio track.
Hey guys. I was on vacation inaccessible for over a month and Iāve got too many emails and too many companies. This thread slipped by me. Iām going to review all of this tomorrow and get some answers.
Just wondered if you had got back to Plex to advise them whatās wrong with their tuning service ?
Any news about this issue?
Switching to Manual selection of audio in the account settings has been seen to hang Plex Web DVR Live TV tuning on channels with multiple audio streams
We have an issue open for dealing with channels that have descriptive audio
@sa2000 The intersection of free time to debug and failing recordings finally happened. Iāve captured the info requested and posted to OneDrive. Recording session started at 12:27 and stopped at 12:29. No audio recorded. Let me know if more info is needed, or if you can tell what may be causing failures of audio to be recorded.
Thanks!
Can you share the status on this issue?
Are there any workarounds? HD HomeRun in US with ATSC terrestrial broadcast if that matters.
@sa2000 Any chance you can confirm that the issue being faced in my logs has something to do with existence of descriptive audio, or is there something else afoot? Thanks!
I am having the same issue as others in this post of no audio playing when tuning to my local ABC channel on Plex. It has been going on now for maybe about a year but getting worse lately. When this happens you go the audio setting while it is playing and it says none. If I close the channel and try reopening it several times eventually it grabs the audio. It is really frustrating when you record a program and go the play it and there is no audio. At first I thought it was my tuners so I bought a new one. Same problem. So I tried reloading plex software and rescanning all the stations, same problem. I am able to access the station with my Hauppauge Win TV software every time with no issues, so that tells me it is a Plex issue. I am hoping you will be able to find the issue. My wife is trying to get to dump Plex for Emby for this reason. It always seems to be her recorded programs that have no audio. I hope you understand, happy wife happy life. Please keep this issue on your radar and let me know if you are having any success in figuring out what the problem is. I much prefer Plex over Emby. Or if someone out there has found the solution shout it back to me I have flagged this post. Thank You
I have the same issue.
Recordings sometimes select the descriptive audio. At other times Iāll find that plex has recorded the Spanish audio channel despite having selected English for audio.
I am sorry it took me a long time to come back to this forum thread. Whilst the Transcoder sessions folders capture and other info was good, you had disabled debug logging on the server and so the server logs do not contain any detail of the recording that went wrong
Please enable server debug logging and get me fresh set of diagnostics for next occurrence
Please restart the server after enabling debug logging so we have fresh logs created and starting with debug logging enabled

Please provide similar diagnostics and details of the issue and timings
Thanks
It is my understanding that when recording into a .ts file, we capture all streams into that ts file allowing for the required streams to be selected on playback
Could you get media info for ts file - see Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support
If the ts file is wrong then we would need more detailed dianostics as outlined earlier here
Note that we do not support ATSC 3.0 which has AC4 audio
Iāve investigated the .ts files using vlc, and often the audio is simply missing, or includes only one audio stream. These are not ATSC 3.0 programs, as that standard is not yet supported on any channels in my area.
