Let me get this straight, I'm paying $5 a month just to have Plex run on Xbox One, I don't use any other Plex Pass features - yet it has less features than the free Roku app?
How does that make any sense? I'd really like a proper explanation, not a guess.
I can't speak for others but for me, if that's not fixed within the 30 days I have Plex Pass - I'm simply going to pass on paying anything for the simple fact that it's not an improvement on my previous setup prior to using Xbox One. If paying customers don't get the same benefits that non-paying customers can get then what's the point for someone like me? Truly..
The XBox One app is a preview release. Which means it is a demonstration of what will be coming to the device. Think of it as a sneak peak. It does not have all the features other clients may have but may also include new features others do not. The idea is to allow customers to test out the app and provide feedback on the features that it does have so bugs can be worked out before the full app is released.
If you got a PlexPass just for the XBox app and do not ened any other PlexPass benefits, you may want to wait until the full app is released.
As MovieFan pointed out - this application is still in early development. We strive for parity across the apps, eventually.
Which features in the free Roku app are important to you? We try and focus our initial work to get the 'big features' in, but we obviously don't get everything done at first, and we're hard at work adding more. It's always good to get input from you guys as to what's important to you though - so we can weigh priorities accordingly.
Oh, and as for the 'no select user', currently the app has a single xbox live to Plex account limitation. You can link other xbox users to other Plex users, if that helps at all. We realise it's not ideal, but it is possible.
Actually I think the fact that one live account is linked to one plex user is awesome. IMO, it makes for a better integration within the environment where you switch user at an XBox level to access your content.
Tbh, I though it had been developed that way on purpose. Please don't take that back.
It had been developed 'on purpose', don't worry! :)
We're aware that other apps, and users, don't use it just like this, and that we currently have no way of switching to managed users in Plex Home, for instance. It's something we'd still like to improve across our 'big screen' apps, especially those with some concept of current user already.
When I discovered it worked like that I just created Plex users for each member and added them to my home setup. Than started the app with each user selected and connected their plex user to their xbox user. Now it is working great. So why would I use managed users instead?
The only thing you want to add is a xbox current user profile switch like many games have. That solves the switching completely.
Great to hear this works well for you. Thanks for the feedback.
The advantage of adding managed user support would be to allow those without plex.tv accounts (like your kids, or other members of your Plex Home) to use the app without that extra sign up step. But as you note, there are workarounds right now.
There is a 'switch xbox user' in the menu when you hit the 'start'/'settings' button on your controller. A bit hidden!
I'm a little confused. I have a plex plex pass and I've added my girlfriend as a user. She is using it on an xbox one at her home with her own Xbox Live account. But whenever she uses plex, it uses it as my user on plex and sets everything she watches to "watched" on my plex user. If I'm understanding this correctly, she will need her own plex pass in order to link it to her Xbox Live account and then I would need to share my library to her plex pass?
Am I thinking about this right?
Is there anyway that my one Plex Pass can allow her to use her Xbox Live account to log in with her user profile?
Thats not quite right cypres0099: She would need her own free Plex.tv account. You would then send an invite to her from your Plex Home and share the libraries that she will want to see with that account. Her user being in your Plex Home will give her account Plex Pass rights and allow her to use the preview apps.
If that still doesn't make sense, there is a sticky in this forum that explains it rather well. :)

It's cool for some people but quite annoying for others. You can't reliably use other apps on the xBox this way.
For example appls like Skype are far less useful if "you" aren't logged in because someone changed the user. I like to equate it this way. Would you want Plex linked to your Windows account so that in order to login to plex as a new user you have to log out of windows and log back in as someone else. Of course every other app running under windows gets closed.
I certainly understand some people like this functionality and would not want to see it removed but would love to have the option of choosing the user from inside the Plex app OR having it tied to the live account.

Definitely think this is what they need to do. Have a mechanism setup for autologin if you don't want it to work this way, otherwise have the fast user switching if the user wants. I prefer it the way it is to be honest, but can definitely understand why people would want it the other way.
Your Skype reference is flawed however. If you switch user accounts on the Xbox One skype is still running in the background and will display a notification for the other user if they get a call even if they aren't the active one. If I'm not logged into the Xbox, it shouldn't show my skype as online or take calls on it since I'm likely not there. Not saying it invalidates your point completely and I get where you are coming from, but your example isn't really on point. :)
Hmm, maybe there is some other setting I'm missing then because I have 3 accounts setup on the xBox One and as I switch users on the xBox it changes the status of Skype as seen from a computer. Got to go play.
Well, I'm not sure what the status says when I switch users, but I know that the notification for an incoming call still pops up when logged in as a different user (example: I'm logged in watching youtube, wife gets skype call from her mom).
