Plex Media Player Windows 10 No Sound

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 3.77.4

Hi All,

Recently Plex Media Player stopped playing audio on any type of file. I’ve checked the obvious (to me) things including: The sound level and mute buttons in plex. The sound and mute buttons in Windows.

The player itself is not muted in windows since I get the sound feedback noises when scrolling through the menu. I’ve tried every permutation of settings in the Audio settings but this has not solved the issue.

I’ve checked that PMP is set to use the correct audio output (“Speakers (Realtek HD Audio)”) but have also switched it to the other devices just to be sure (HDMI sound devices and “Realtek Digital HD Audio”). I’ve also tried to have PMP automatically choose the device.

The speaker config should be set to 5.1 but I’ve also tried auto, stereo and 7.1 to no avail.

The media plays fine on other devices (TV) and also plays audio when I open the server web app (although this is only capable of stereo, no 5.1).

Video still plays without a hitch, just no sound.

This affects every type of media I have, uncompressed blu-ray & 4k blu-ray rips, DVD rips (all in mkv containers). Flac and aac/m4a/mp3 audio also do not play.

I’ve also uninstalled PMP (but not the server, which is on the same PC) and re-installed but still had the same issues.

I’m guessing this is just some setting somewhere that I’ve missed so any direction would be appreciated.

During playback, press and hold the + key on your keyboard.

Unfortunately that just adjusts the players volume slide that was already at 100%. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Close PMP,
then delete the configuration/data folder
%LOCALAPPDATA%/PlexMediaPlayer
Restart PMP

You will have to connect it to your Plex account again

That’s done it!

Thanks heaps for your help. I would have thought a config issue would have been fixed by the uninstall/re-install but glad it’s working now.
