No sound for non-first audio track

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#:5.90.1

I’m using XSX client and passthrough audio to a soundbar. There is no transcoding for both video and audio during playback.

For a video file with 3 audio tracks, the first is TrueHD, the 2nd and 3rd are AC3. When playing the file with iOS client, there is no issue for all audio tracks, but when playing it with XSX client, there is no sound for both 2nd and 3rd audio tracks.

I tried to change the audio track order by using MKVToolNix, and the AC3 track is the first track now and there is no issue for playing.

I tested several other files like this. e.g., the first audio track is TrueHD and other audio tracks are AC3 and found the problem exist for all of them. Seems Plex has problem to handle this kind of files.

Been an issue for a long time.

Thanks for this information. I’m new to Plex. Can’t believe such a basic playback issue has not been fixed for months.

While searching Xbox version history for Plex for this issue, I found this change log

  • Added restriction that DTS and Dolby Atmos tracks must be the first audio tracks in the file for passthrough

Plex restricts only passthrough the first DTS/Dolby audio track explicitly. It sounds ridiculous! Maybe I’m naive here, but I never see this kind of restriction on a video player.
