I had just ripped the Criterion DVD of Sanjuro and tried watching it on my Pixel 4a. No subtitles (VOSUB)! They worked fine on my desktop and laptop, however.
What’s weird is that when I navigated away from the Plex App on my phone and the video went to picture-in-picture mode, subtitles were visible in the tiny version.
Exactly the same thing happens to me to. It also happens on my Google TV (which also runs Android), which is my main device and stopped displaying subtitles a few weeks ago. Although I, obviously, can’t rotate the screen, I suspect it is the same issue.
Other formats (PGS, SRT etc.) seem to be fine. It appears to only happen with VOBSUBs. Non-Android apps also appear to be OK.
