ok, thanks for the update.
I've read through the entire thread and am still not 100% sure -- is 1080p video playback currently possible on PS4? (not the UI)

The PS4 wasn't mentioned in the thread as the 720p limitation only affects the PS3 as it relates to playback

Gotcha. (I figured this was the case as the PS4 is not mentioned on the FAQ here either, but I wanted to confirm.) Thanks!
Are we still waiting or has this been fixed now?
We're waiting on Sony to make some important platform fixes before we release a new version of the app w/ the 1080p fix.
Would we be right in understanding from this that you have fixed the issue from your end then?
Is there even a rough eta for when these Sony fixes may be coming to the platform?
I'm considering retiring my home theatre PC, for the convenience of a one box solution in the PS3, but I want to hold off until I know I won't be crippling video quality indefinitely
Cheers

@mseeley?
Aw man, I’ve just purchased a Plex Pass only so I can use the PS3 app. The Android app I’ve been using for the tv up to now is frustrating the life out of me and seeing as I have been able to use DLNA on the PS3 flawlessly I thought I would get the Plex Pass so I could have the elegant UI combined with the reliability of the PS3. How frustrating it is to find that I can’t playback 1080 using the app.
Sony has to give Plex Inc. a good platform build so they can update the binary. Until then there is not much they can do. And Sony has still not done that.

Can someone at Plex fire off a friendly reminder email to Sony on a weekly basis until they do >:)
So the latest update did not fix this, however, I have managed to workaround this problem by creating a new play station account. If you register as an American and give an American address when going through the sign up in the play station store you will be able to download the U.S. version of the Plex app. This app DOES open in 1080 and does not have any problems, you can also use it with your normal play station account.
Interestingly, I notice the American app is 42mb and the Euro app is 41mb, don’t know what it means but there you go.
Nice circumvention.
Out of curiosity do you notice any behavior difference between the 720p and 1080p versions? You’re the first user I’ve had a chance to ask directly.

Errr, what? So this is a regional issue? Great find!
@mattseeley if US customers have the functionality, is it just an oversight that the rest of us don’t?
EDIT:
Sorry, I see the fact it was regional was mentioned previously in the thread. I guess I forgot, because it was such a long time ago!
I’ve done the same as Stewie and installed the US version under a new account. Seems to be working fine, so no idea why there is a difference between the two.
Is the non US release broken? Or is there a reason for the difference?

Both apps appear to function exactly the same way as each other, mind you I haven’t spent much time using the Euro one as I did not want to watch my movies downscaled to 720 if I didn’t have to. I have noticed the US app is a bit sluggish when navigating larger libraries but other than that there is no real problems to report.

It’s something to do with the API used for the Euro app not supporting full hd output or something like that.
