I am trying to avoid transcoding when using remote access. Using the same access methods (Edge browser), to access the same movie, i get direct play when my server is accessed using the internal network address whereas i get transcoding (from aac to aac and h264 to h264) when doing the same thing through plex.tv/web from my home :-s
Throtling is disabled, remote quality is original, i dunno where to look anymore. Is that by design? Any way to go around this?

To start with, I would suggest not using the Plex Web. If you like that GUI, the Plex Media Player has a Plex Web mode that you can switch to - but still have the PMP engine in the background. Thus you’ll avoid the transcoding part based on codecs or such, though I know this is most likely not the case in this example. I’d suggest further that you look at your server log and searchc for the row MDE (it will appear when you start a playback). That row will tell you why Plex decided to transcode.
I had a look at the log when playing the same file internal and then through remote access using the plex.tv/web url.
Only when using remote access I see tons on log entries with “MDE”. What is it?
