Some videos on my NAS server cannot play on my Chromecast, because of buffer underflow.
I just managed to see that if I shut off the Internet connection, Plex is not able to play at all.
The video streaming between my Synology NAS and my Chromecast, both on the same LAN, go through the Internet?
Where can I configure the system so that the AV packets stay and stream on my LAN, not on the Internet?
the internet is used as a “phone book”, so that your Chromecast can find your server. In the case of the Chromecast, it always needs internet connectivity anyway because it loads its firmware directly from the internet.
But that doesn’t mean that your media data will be routed over your internet connection! Read on:
disable ‘Secure Connections’ under
Settings - Server - Network
then restart your Plex server und after a few minutes your chromecast as well
If the issue persists, go to
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’
and put the network address of your local network into “LAN Networks”
e.g. 192.168.1.0/24
Then restart your plex server again.
If measure 2) has already solved the issue, but you want to continue using ‘secure connections’ you need to convince your router to play ball:
