Synology DSM - No write access to destination

Hi there,

Like others picked up a HDHomeRun and am getting the ‘No write access to destination’ after configuring Plex on the Synology NAS box. I saw a few threads and made the following changes:

Added plex user to group users and ensured that permissions are Read/Write for the group on Video share. Then checked permissions on user plex and it reports that it has read/write access. However, after all that it still says that there is no write access.

So I then logged in as a user, sudo su and changed the group for the recordings from root to users, thinking this would kick it into touch, but again no access. It would be nice to log in as user plex and see what permissions it actually has, but what is the password?

Sorry should have been clearer. There is a default share Video under /volume2 of the DiskStation. This is group root, and under this are the individual folders Movies/TV Shows and so on. I changed the group permissions for TV Shows as a test to users from root, but that didn’t work.

I see when installing Plex package on Synology it creates a video group, with the only user Plex. This group didn’t seem to have any permission set at all, so I changed the group permissions to read/write for the media shares, but still it does not work. Looking at the groups the Plex user is in I can see it is a member of administrators, and still it says it doesn’t have access… I give up!

It’s unfortunate you’re having these issues with Plex and your Synology NAS. I’m sure its frustrating.

I can’t begin to fathom the cause(s) of the problem. I can only say that I have no such issues running Plex Media Server Version 1.7.5.4035 on a Synology DS1815+ running DSM 6.1.2-15132 and a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime with firmware version 20170612beta1. In fact I have never seen this issue even on earlier versions and combinations of Plex, Synology DSM and SiliconDust firmware.

I can’t seem to find any threads that have a solution to this issue. I’m experiencing the same thing.

I am using Shield TV.

I believe I have the latest version of the Plex Server (I cannot update to a new version)

I have my Shield mounted to my Synology DS416play, I have Read/Write permissions set. My Plex server is my Shield TV. I set the DVR folder to use to the TV section in Plex server. My HD Homerun is connected.

I am able to see the guide and schedule recordings, but I get a “No Write” error. Another thing is my Plex App doesn’t have the “Live TV” icon it’s supposed to have. According to the Plex Live TV/DVR guide, I should have a Live TV option when in the app.

I would appreciate any help.

Is this an issue with Plex or Shield? The Shield people didn’t have an answer for me either. I’m new to this whole NAS, Networking thing. Is there a good guide on how to set permissions on a NAS?

What version are you running on your shield? You would need to be running 5.2

I figured it out. It was user error.

I changed my Gmail password and never got an error when looking for Play Store updates. It wasn’t until I wanted to download a new app that it asked me for the password. Upon entering it, both server and Plex updated to versions 6.3 and 1.8 respectively.

Thanks for the replies, but I am still in the same boat. Cannot for the life of me work out why the Plex user doesn’t seem to have R/W permissions to those folders

OK so I am reasonably sure this is a permissions issue on my external drive caddy on the Synology. I logged in as a different user and also do not have R/W access (even though this user is a member of administrators). A step forward I guess…

Checking my old threads on Synology they said that I had to set permissions on that folder manually (and not in the control panel). I stated that this was beyond the average users capability (link below):

forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=114734&p=428378#p428378

Anyway, seems exactly the same issue in that I have no access (whatsoever) to this share (on the caddy) even though my users are in the admin group, and I set up a new group with fill access.

OK with chmod 777 on each folder under the main share recording now works… (previously 755). Bit nuclear, but just wanted to get it working. Something funny with this external caddy, as permissions work as expected on the internal drive shares…
