How is it that we’re in 2020 now and Plex doesn’t fully support X265 or PSG subtitles without transcoding? Plex needs to hurry up and move on with the times.

Mind sharing some context?
Stuff like… what PMS version, what clients you’re using, is this 4K content or lower-resolution/quality content that just happens to be encoded in h265…
While most of my media is still in h264… the few files I’ve re-encoded are working just fine.

I suspect the OP is referring to ENcoding INTO x265.
for using less bandwidth.
When I try to plow that field with my best horse - the horse dies.
What is a nice 20 minute encode for x264 turns into a 3 hour HellFest for x265.
I suspect Plex doesn’t want to subject all these underpowered servers with a transcoding option that would do little more that display the Orange Swirl.
well obviously, encoding into 265 would only be practical for GPU/plex pass users.
and if the OP is talking about playback support, that is all completely dependent on the CLIENT.
and to that I suggest > NVIDIA SHIELD OMGEEE

…all I know is I’m in the process of ‘fixing’ about a thousand of them - with about 350 to go…
if they don’t work on ‘the retooling’ that’s underway (not one Shield has been purchased) I’ll be pretty sad, but they do - and that’s all I have time for. The grindstone awaits and thank goodness all they require is a Remux.
Same issue here. I’m using AppleTV 4Ks as clients to a Unraid PMS. The plex app on AppleTV will not direct stream x265 files, which requires a transcode. To work around this, I pay for infuse which works properly (but is ugly and cluttery). Its disappointing, as I would gladly pay for a plex pass if you guys could sort out this only issue.

Atv supports 265 just fine.
It does not support truehd/atmos.
ATV does, the Plex app on it doesn’t
The plex player on atv DOES support 265.
If you are having problems, new thread, all details including specific client and server, screen shots of plex dashboard, and logs.
AppleTV does support Atmos as well?

It does in Dolby Digital Plus form.
