I prefer that source material, but it never works with Plex as it just shows a black screen. It will scan it, display it but won’t play it. I have 918+ so it’s not a transcoding issue as far as I know which leads me to believe that x265 still isn’t supported by Plex
Any help here or are we still waiting?
It always depends on the Plex client type.
Are you trying to play this stuff in the web app?
Don’t. Web browsers don’t support H.265
Try to play it in ‘Plex for Windows’, ‘Plex for Mac’ or the older ‘Plex Media Player’
So it’s only the web browser that doesn’t support it but yet all the apps do? Using Apple TV for TV, but I normally watch it through the computer using Chrome.
I’ll watch TV shows on the computer and Movies are on the TV through Apple TV
Don’t. A web browser is the worst environment for media playback.
Ok so it doesnt work for Chrome but it does work for apps like AppleTV?
Ok so I tried it through the Windows app on the computer and it works. Kinda weird they haven’t updated the browser to play it though, but made it so it works on apps
“They” would be the browser manufacturers. And this is strictly a political/monetary matter. A new codec costs licensing money. They will rather push the free VP9 codec.
I have a Sony Bravia and x265 content plays fine on it… no discoloration or anything… You will need to provide more information. Is it transcoding? direct play? direct stream? Is your Bravia an AndroidTV Model? What version of Android Plex Client are you using? Which Plex Media Server version are you using? etc.
