OK so I am totally new to the Plex and RasPi worlds, but I am a computer expert (like, fixing PCs and laptops is my job, hardware and software) so I should be able to get this working.
I have gotten the plex software all up and running, I can stream to my iPad and iPhone and then to a TV no problem. But I just got a Rasberry Pi and have it plugged in and kinda working, but can't figure out the remote on iOS app thing.
I have the plex app, and I hit the little Choose a Player icon at the bottom and I pick my Raxplex from the menu. But from what I can tell, there's nothing more I can do from there. For instance, after that when I hit that button it pops up with the movie I was last watching, Hunger games. And I have controls at the bottom of the phone screen. But hitting them does nothing. On the TV I am still seeing the Rasplex home screen. The iOS player goes from Paused to Play, but nothing changes on the screen. The time at the top of the phone window shows a 0:00 minute long movie that is not moving forward. I tried picking a different movie, but no change. When I hit that new movie it brings up the art of course and says controlling TV on Rasplex, and the pause and stop buttons are enabled (indicating that it thinks it's playing now) but nada.
I found the setting in Rasplex to allow control from plex clients but it was already enabled.
Am I missing something? Thanks!
Edit: I tried another iOS device and had the same result.
if youre running the latest version of the PLEX SERVER on your PC and you're running the 0.3.x version of rasplex it wont work for the iOS remote. plex changed some remote api things in their latest build and you need to be running the latest EXPERIMENTAL build on the Pi in order for the iOS feature to work.
once rasplex releases their stable 0.4.0 release it will be working as well. if you're running the latest rasplex experimental build, and the latest PLEX SERVER it should work fine. no problems here

If this is true, then this is probably the problem. I have the newest current version of both but didn't install the experimental version of anything. I'll see when I can get around to trying. How often do they update? I know its impossible to know when it will happen but what's the consensus? Soon or could be 10 months?

stable releases come out a long time apart. it appears that the Plex guys did some monkeying around with the remote control API quite often recently and it caused some problems. it should not be changing again anytime soon, or so they say
rasplex fixed it in their latest experimental and it will be in the final stable release. the final stable release should be coming out in the next 2-3 weeks but anything could happen.
it should take you 4-5 mins to throw the latest experimental on a SD card and you'll be running the build with all the latest fixes anyways.
at least you know why the iOS feature isnt working :)
