Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456
Player Version#: Last on Amazon Fire
Got a really strange problem with Plex on Amazon Fire. I have a PMS running on Windows 10 PC connected via Wi-Fi to local network. My Amazon Fire is connected on the same Wi-Fi. I can access perfectly my server from the client, I can see all the movies and TV series but when I choose one to play it starts to wait and never run. The funny thing is that I have also a cloud server on my One Drive and if I try to use that server it works perfectly. Yes, you have red right: movies from the Internet run perfectly and the same movies from local network are not able to start!!!
Obviously if I use the Plex client locally on the server all works perfectly with absolutely no problems.
What I can do? I got some logs (unfortunately verbose) but if you want I can provide new logs (unchecked the flag).
Amy suggestion? Thanks in advance, any help will be appreciated.
(I forgot: actually it doesn’t work also on Plex clients on Android smartphones and tablets. But I used them with Chromecast a lot of times with no problems at all!! I’m pretty sure I tried the Plex client also on Amazon Fire as soon I installed it but not 100%. Problems started 3 months ago, more or less)
Since your server is also on WiFi, it’s possible your WiFi is saturated and just can’t get enough data through. I would hard wire your server if you can. PMS doesn’t work well through WiFi.
Or, it could also be your WiFi has enabled isolation mode which treats each WiFi connection as separate so they can’t see each other. This means the signals are going out through the internet then back in, instead of server and client talking to each other locally.
Thank you for the answer. Your point is a good point and I’m going to check it out in detail my Wi-Fi configuration. Unfortunately I can’t connect my Plex server to the ADSL Router that’s also the Wi-Fi hub by cable. The strange thing is that all worked perfectly not a long time ago. I must confess I was not using Plex server for a while…to much streaming services and too much series and movies….
I’ll update this thread as soon I got some news, bad or good.
Thanks again…
Got an update.
My W-Fi hub doesn’t have an explicit option for the isolation mode, so, even if I was able to see my local movies in the past, still got the doubt that mode is used by default.
I’m a lucky guy, and now I am testing another Wi-Fi hub (a TP-Link model instead of the Internet provider one) with an explicit option for isolation mode, obviously now unchecked.
Still the same problem.
All works good when I connect to the server, I can see all movies in the library, all TV series and so on, and it seems it’s working pretty fast, until I “press” the play button…
At that moment starts an infinite wait “ambra” cycle on the screen….
Really can’t understand what’s happening.
Forgot to say: same thing using the Plex client on smartphone or tablet…
One last thing: before the installation and configuration of Amazon Fire, I used Plex Android Client on smartphone or tablet and Chromecast…
Then I started to use Plex on Amazon Fire….
Now I’m stuck.
Any help or suggestion will be appreciated, thanks.
Tried also to use another ADSL connection.
Still don’t understand the problem. My Plex clients (on Fire, on tablet, on smartphone) are connected locally with my Plex Server. Do I need an internet connection to use it? Why?
And even I need it for authentication purposes, why the stream needs to flow through the Internet?
And, in the end, what is changed from the time I used exactly the same configuration and all works without any problem? I always had my PC connected by Wi-Fi, before I used a Plex client on tablet or smartphone and a Chromecast connected on the TV, all devices obviously connected via Wi-Fi with the same TP-Link router.
So? Are you telling me that from an enthusiastic lifetime subscriber I’ll be forced to become a lifetime angry Plex user?
Please recreate the issue and then grab the log from the Plex app.

Server or client logs? Or both?

Just to be sure…it seems it’s not possible to upload two files…. so: in the first reply you will find the server logs, here the Android client logs….
Looking at your client log. I see 2 playback events at the end of the log. 1 is an h264 video you are casting to something called a NebChromecast that appears to work. I see the playtime changing. The other is a local direct playback of an divx file. It’s possible the player is having issues with that file. Can you provide me a sample of that file so I can test?
What was happening is that the playback to the dongle (NebChromecast) was not working. I also synchronized to the tablet (the Android client) another movie, and playing it locally, obviously, worked perfectly.
Just for your information: the first movie is “Butch Cassidy” and the second is “The Right Stuff”.
I tried previously to redirect to NebChromecast the local movie, but, as I supposed, the Chromecast tried to connect directly to the server, so also that test failed.
But that test is not present in the logs.
What seems pretty strange is that the movie didn’t seem to flow directly from the server to the client, but, don’t know how, goes outside to the internet and then come back: is it possible? As you probably know, in an ADSL the upload bandwidth is really poor, so that could explain the situation, but I really don’t understand why got to work in that way…

Any news? Any suggestion? Anything pop-up from my logs?
I still have the same problem….
Ah sorry. Lost track of this due to the holidays. The client you you provided previously was from your phone when you were casting. I need the log from the Fire device.
Ok, as soon as possible I’ll send the logs taken during a try from the Fire…
Thanks

Important update: just 2 days ago I changed my Internet provider and now I got a faster line. More than 10 times faster, even more for the upload side. So I tried again to use Plex. Now it works fine.
So for me it’s now clear that the stream goes outside (don’t know where) and then come back inside to the Fire TV. And that’s pretty crazy, I believe that the flow streams locally, and I’m pretty sure it was like that not a long time ago.
Anyone knows something about this?
Is it true that if I stream a movie from a Plex server to a casting device connected to the same network I NEED A FAST INTERNET CONNECTION OTHERWISE IT DON’T WORK?
I really thought it should work even WITHOUT an Internet connection! It’s my server in my local network!! What if there’s a problem and I’m disconnected: I can’t use my Plex server?
I think this is not fair and it’s a problem you got to solve.
Let me know.
No, the stream should stay local. But there are factors that could prevent a local connection, so the app might connect through the internet. The app’s default is to use a secured connection. It will first try making a local secured connection to your server. If for some reason, this can’t be done, then it will go through the internet. There is a setting in the app to “allow insecure connection”. If you enable this, the app with still prefer a local secured connection, but if that fails, it will try an insecure local connection, then a secured external connection. All of these connection tests are included in the app’s log, so if you can provide that I can check to see why it would go through the internet.
Oh thanks. This is a useful information. I’ll try ASAP. So I should find the settings in the FireTV App…I’ll check it out tonight. Thank you very much, I’ll let you know what will happen. And, just in case it won’t work, I’ll send the logs.
