Unable to watch a movie on a local home Plex server when intenet is down?

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6104
Player Version#: Plex-Web Version 4.90.1

Unfortunately my internet connection dropped for the whole of Sunday last weekend, so I thought I’d watch some of my movies on Plex.
My plex server is installed on my Desktop PC (reserved ip 192.168.1.107) , the same PC that contains my movies. This PC is connected to my home network via a Netgear Orbi RBK50 3 unit mesh network.
My TV is an LG Oled with WebOS (reserved ip 192.168.1.104).
Even though my Desktop PC and LG TV were connected to my home network via WiFi, i was surprised to find that the LG TV Plex app was not able to find my Desktop PC Plex Server even though it was on the same local home network. But when my internet connection came back up late in the evening, the connection to the server was re-established and it worked ok.

I must have something configured incorrectly, but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone provide some guidance please?

It is the “normal” behavior. You need Internet to login into plex.tv. You can deactivate this by deactivating all user security and it will work in your local network but then everyone will use your user, you can’t have managed users.

Yes, Plex thinks this is good and acceptable.

Oh, that’d be a pain! :frowning:
It would be great if there was a switch on the Plex server to make everything ‘local traffic only’ in siutations such as these!
Would I have been able to use my Mobile Phone’s WiFi to do the server login part and to keep the connection alive so my TV could connect to he server, but without all of the movie data traffic going through my mobile phone’s data plan?

Portions of the LG app are downloaded each time you access it so you would have been down for that as well unless it was up and running at the time of the outage.

Using a hotspot to get the LG authenticated to the server would work to get you going, data would be local at that point. The trouble would be putting it in front of the Orbi so that all your ips don’t change.
