I recently added 5 movies to my media folder that plex is assigned to. The directory shows 45 movies but plex it only shows 39. Any ideas. If it matters, they are all mkv files. TIA
The number displayed within Plex isn’t the number of files but the number of items being displayed.
This can vary from the number of files due to a number of reasons, e.g.
- library is configured to display collections inline and hiding their items
- some files are considered different quality versions of the same movies (you should be able to identify those by filtering the library for
Duplicates) - some files are considered to be different parts of the same movies (1 movie split across multiple files) → based on file naming
This is just a few common examples.
Beyond that, there’s actually a few reasons why Plex might miss certain files. Most commonly this is due to permission or file naming / organization issues.

O’ boy., That maybe it. I have 2 version of some movies even though plex shows them. and all my movies are in 1 directory.
