Not available outside your network!

I have been dealing with for years now. I have plex set up on my Synology 418play NAS. I have the NAS connected directly to the router…so it goes, xfinity/router/nas. Everything is connected by ethernet cables. I have a dedicated IP for the NAS but still don’t ever get a very good remote connections even though my internet is pretty fast at 700 to 800 mbps.

Anyone know what the heck is going on? I probably havent provided enough info, but to be honest, I’m not sure what to provide.

ANy help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Your Download speed towards your home network is 700-800 Mbps – remote access is about your Upload speed. In which case you got about 18 Mbps. That should do for DVD based content but won’t be sufficient for most Blu-Ray rips.

The more interesting information would be checking out the Now Playing tile on your server’s dashboard while streaming media from outside your home network. This will show if the connection is considered Remote or Indirect. Indirect connections mean there’s some issue with your remote access setup that’s causing Plex to route the stream through a relay server of plex. These connections are limited to 1 Mbps (2 Mbps for Plex Pass members).

Thanks for pointing out the “upload” derrrrrrrrr. Didn’t think very hard on that one lol. It is playing “indirect”. I checked like you showed in your image under the dashboard. I’ve always been getting popups on my mobile devices telling me that the playback is going to be indirect, can’t think of any time it didn’t do that. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this to get this resolved? Thanks for chiming in!

EDIT:

I think I may have figured it out… will come back to finish this once it’s definitive

In case you still need to troubleshoot this…

yeah, I was just reading over your info and read about having multiple modems and needing to bridge…that was step one which got me half way there…again, you had written about VPN’s…and that was the second issue. Thank you so much for your help!!! Just goes to show what you can accomplish when you have time to sit down and actually read lol.
