Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 1.23.0.1435-e10e14cf
Constantly getting the “Not enough CPU for conversion of this item.” error. This has been happening ever since I disabled transcoding (over several player/server versions). I have transcoding disabled on my server, direct play enabled, and my player set to play maximum quality. This happens across all my devices (Desktop, Laptop, Phone, Media PC).
Usually when I get this error simply exiting Plex Media Player and opening it again allows me to play the content. I have the same issues local and remote, however this time while I’m remote restarting PMP is not solving the issue. I can find no consistency in the formats it’s trying to transcode. Some HVEC I can play, some I can’t. Some multichannel FLAC I can play, some I can’t. Some TrueHD I can play, some I can’t. Some PGS subtitles I can play, some I can’t.
The fact that restarting the player often fixes the problem suggest this is a bug, and not something being played back that needs to be transcoded.
Update:
Just tried turning transcoding back on. The shows will now play, but both video and audio are showing as direct play. Not sure why it’s not working with transcoding off.
Later in the evening it claimed to be “transcoding” the audio (TrueHD > Opus) and video (HVEC > ACV) despite me having selected “Original” quality in the player, and other videos with those same codecs direct playing without issue.
Getting this same issue still. I watched part of a video last night, updated to the latest version of the server earlier today, and now I am once again getting the “Not enough CPU for conversion of this item” error despite it being the exact same file.
Update:
I have since re-labeled the episode (now thinks it’s episode 1 instead of 2) and it now plays with no issue. Can we PLEASE get Plex/PMP fixed so it stops trying to transcode things for no reason?
I’ve finally unsubscribed and switched to Emby. You lose the “skip intro” feature for now (they’re working on their own version that’s coming soon), but it was 100% worth it. Fewer issues and much better support.
I have noticed recently that a large number of my video files experience the same issue - I watch via the web player or IOS app mostly.
However if for some reason a video get stopped part way through playback (switch app on IOS or close the browser) when resuming or starting a new playback I start to see the “Not enough CPU for conversion of this item”
When checking the actual CPU usage, its barely above 10%
I will try a reboot of PMS and see if that clears it up
Hi
I Solved the issue by using a shared folder. I have the Plex on a virtual machine and I don’t want to have a huge Hard disk on the VM so I have a network shared folder NFS Share on my server which I run plex. I just created a tmp folder inisde the shared folder and on plex setting > Transcoder > Transcoder temporary directory I just typed the address of the folder. the folder is mounted on /media/plex/tmp
