"Not enough disk space to convert item" with 100gb+ free !

Trying to watch a movie around 15gb and getting this error.

Plex has worked flawlessly for me before so no idea why this is happening. I currently have 100gb+ free.

I use a rented server and I believe I had a custom transcode directory.

When I connected to the server the directory file wasnt openable for some reason. I deleted the folder and recreated it, and it still wont work.

How do I fix this?

How much does the logs say it thinks is free? Maybe something got stuck in the directory that it could not delete for some reason.

I have lots of different log files, which would say this?

The Plex Media Server.log

Go to that directory/drive and see what if anything is in it.

Both directories empty

how much does is available for that mount? I’m not a linux expert but I believe df -h will tell you the space available on mounts.

Does this help?

I’m guessing it from here then which only has 74MB available. /dev/sdd1 9.1T 9.0T 74M 100% /home4 I don’t know what else is on that drive to say why there is so little left

Yes I believe home4 is my drive from the place I rent. Why does it show only 74mb available when I have 100gb on there?

You may need to talk to the folks you rent it from. Go through your directories in it to see which ones are unusually large. Does this contain PMS and your Media files?

Things like preview thumbs can take up a large amount of space for example depending on how large your media library is. If that might be the cause you can disable those from being created the library settings under advanced and delete any that currently exist.

I’ll contact them.

All of my PMS files seem to be in /tmp/

My library is quite small, 300 movies or so. I doubt it’s taking up 100gb in previews.

Where is your PMS transcoder temporary directory?

If, when the transcoder estimates the amount of space required for the file to be transcoded, insufficient space exists, it will flag this error.

Hi there,

I’m not sure what the PMS directory is. I have this one set to default

with that as default, it will use the tmp_transcoding directory in /var/lib/plexmediaserver.

df -h /var (which is your root filesystem for most).

Compare that to 4.5 x the size of the file being transcoded.
