Not enough disk space to convert this item

Sorry for the delay, thank you so much for your help, I can definitely use it. I feel very comfortable using Command Line Interface (CLI), I do have some knowledge of Linux commands, but I would not consider that to be vast. Am I guessing you’re referring to expanding the volume using GParted?

I have the RAID mounted in my home directory?

I know the Synology NAS is quite full, only 200Gb available, I just need to clean up the DVR, I can probably delete 1.5Tb just there.

One thought I had was, I have another NVME drive, perhaps just swap them out and do a fresh 22.04 load on the new one? I’m just concerned about all the things I’ve done with this distro being lost, that said I’m no longer needing the dual boot option since I got VirtualBox on the system.

First - We don’t put PMS itself over the network on any NAS. PMS requires file locking which isn’t supported by any network filesystem protocol. Cleanup of “junk” from the Syno will be a separate cleanup or expansion issue.

Next - Do you have a free SSD slot in the machine for another M.2 or 2.5" / 3,5" drive in the machine?

I ask about the M.2 slot because adding another SATA or NVME SSD would be the fastest option

That notwithstanding, a SATA 2.5" (which works in a 3.5" SATA slot) would be the next choice.

From there, we do the following

  1. With PMS stopped
  2. Install and prepare the new SSD (mount it somewhere --e.g. /plex)
  3. MOVE “Library” from /var/lib/plexmediaserver to /plex
  4. Create the customized configuration file (for systemd) or edit /etc/defaults/plexmediaserver (if you still use that on 18.04) to point to where you’ve moved the PMS instance.

In the end, you’ve freed up all that space from the root filesystem,
Stopped the extra/excessive wear and tear on the OS SSD.
Moved to a new location where it can grow.

How’s this sound?

It had been my plan to use the RAID for the transcode location, I have 1Tb of available space on it. Is that not a good option compared to a dedicated drive?

If you want to put the transcoder temp directory on the RAID, that will be OK
–EXCEPT–
you won’t be able to transcode anything with Dolby audio (EAC-3 and above)

The Dolby convertor we’re licensed to use requires a file lock (notify slot) which doesn’t work over the network.

I think your best choice is to get PMS out of the root partition first.
After that’s done, reevaluate how the machine looks (storage wise) and then look forward

Even though the RAID is in the PC directly? The Synology NAS is on the network, the RAID is in the PC.

Sorry. I forgot that

:man_facepalming:

yes, we can put it there

Shall I start drafting a procedure or do you have this?

I would be guessing, a procedure would be very nice to have.

I have the RAID mounted at /dev/md0 (/home/Chris/RAID)
The NAS is mounted at [IP address]/Volume1/Media (/home/Chris/Home/NAS)

Do I change my transcode location to ‘/Documents/Transcode’?
