Apologies if this has already been asked – I wasn’t able to find it, if so.
My server’s “now playing” indicator reflects content being played if and ONLY if that content is being played locally through my own web browser. For all other scenarios, there is no indication at all that content is being played even when I’m absolutely certain that it is, whether remotely by a friend/family member or elsewhere in my house from another device.
Unfortunately, I can’t pinpoint precisely when this began since I only recently noticed it. I’m currently running PMS v1.0.0.2261.
Now Playing isn’t working for me either after the last update. Web is fine, Roku is fine, Home Theater users do not show. Programs watched with Home Theater are not being marked as watched either.
I am having the same issue. Appears that after updating to v1.0.0.2261, you cannot see now playing when using the Plex Home Theatre client but it does show it when using Plex Media Player.
Plex Home Theater is no longer being developed by Plex and the latest update broke some things. You should move over the the open source fork of PHT - OpenPHT.
OpenPHT is in active development by the Rasplex team - I believe the update (1.6.2) they released yesterday contains fixes to issues that were caused by the newest PMS update. Now Playing and Playlists work for me on Rasplex once I updated.

for crying out loud, i thought this was only for the raspberry pi. I had no idea there was a windows version. Thanks a lot for this, really, this is exactly what i’ve been looking for, it even has a play from here option in the context menu!

Yes, many of the things that had not been addressed in PHT, have been by the developers of OpenPHT. Also, they are eagerly making improvements…
I have the same issue. Quite a useful feature so it would be a pity if plex doesn’t address the functionality within their own application. Also, I don’t really want to move over to OpenPHT for my family as they have only just gotten used to PHT

OpenPHT is functionally and operationally extremely close the PHT. It is simply an offshoot/extension of PHT. OpenPHT looks and feels like PHT so your family should see little or no difference.
PHT is no longer being supported or developed by Plex and OpenPHT is really the only way for PHT users to continue to enjoy the features they have become accustomed to.
Although I do not really use OpenPHT as I prefer the Roku interface I really see no reasonable reason to not move on to the supported and developed system. I even “think” all the skins etc. from PHT work in OpenPHT just as they did in PHT.
Seeing problems with ‘Now Playing’ as well - Plex server version 1.0.3.2461 (Windows) - currently have a web client that appears in ‘Now Playing’ just fine - Android client does not, nor does playback start appear in Alerts.
