Nude Ads with Plex

I have decided to start using Plex on my phone and even paid 4.99 for the subscription. All seemed to be well with my new plex server and the app on my phone, decided to sit everyone down for a movie which was broadcasted from my remote plex server.

Before plex on my phone, I have never had a single pop up ad, Im okay with the fact there may be a on invasive ad on my phone during the showing, even though paying 4.99, but what im absolutely not okay with is the fact that i have nude dating website ads poping up on my phone displaying massive ■■■■ to my whole family., Plex app was minimized on my phone and google chrome open displaying a woman on a dating site with massive jugs, this is absolutely unacceptable and its pretty damn hard to save face now.

Not to mention its making my girlfriend of 5 years now suspicious.

Plex doesn’t pop up ads.
The only place where you will see ads in Plex is if you are using either the ‘News’ feature or the ‘Web Shows’. But there they will only appear as videos inbetween. And the ads will be strictly “family-friendly”.

All other advertising you might see is not originating from Plex. You might want to check your phone for malware.

This is 100% rubbish.

Completely rubbish. My brand new galaxy note 10, has 1 app on it. Just got it yesterday. Plex, which displays ads through my own video library.

Do you have anything to prove your claim?

Brand new phones dont have ad delivery service that would interrupt the users experience by opening google pages.

After fiddling with it last night, this ONLY happens when the plex application is running.

I am not the only user to complain about this on the forums, Or other locations on the web.

Actually they are and will be even more with Google Chrome.

“They”?
And what does Chrome have to do with the Plex Andoid app?

There is 3 different ad types that are shown when the phone is in land scape mode,

  • One will minimize plex, and open a google chrome ad, its usually to a dating site
  • Another will pop up full screen in the middle of the video leaving the video able to be seen playing still on the left and right sides
  • A small banner at the bottom.

The last 2 ads are completely random adverts which are also opened by Plex. When the app is not running no ads ever show on the phone., Once a movie starts, the ads are displayed at random intervals.

“They” as in new Android phones—a vector for privacy invasion ad galore.

I guess the next step is to just have some one decompile your app and expose you that way. Since youre unwilling to either tell me how to disable the ads which are displayed by your application.

Or own up to just wanting the extra revenue.

To me I dont care if you want to show an ad, thats perfectly fine. Displaying nudity to my whole family is the problem I have.

That would be great proof.

I cannot tell you because there are no ads in Plex, except those. I already told you about above.
Whatever is bringing those ads to your phone, it is not Plex.

Youre probably just a forum moderator that doesnt actually know what the developers have done with the application your defending.

There are no ads in PLEX app, upload a screenshot how about that?

I have notified them already. If there is something like this happening, it is not right.
Did you install the app from the original Google Play Store or are you using a 3rd party app store?

Did you perhaps install a “fake app”? There are sometimes “clones” of genuine apps in the app stores where some miscreant has done nothing but copied some well-established app and added some ad-serving code to create income.

I would highly doubt your website would send me to the google play store to download a fake app.

Ill post a screen shot of the ad , making a movie play right now
One will pop up eventually. Usually 10-15 minutes.c

THERE ARE NO POP UPS IN PLEX APP !!! jesus
you downloaded probably a ■■■■■■ free 2 play game with notifications enabled.

Good job on not being able to read the thread.

After you have seen the next ad, could you deinstall Plex from your phone,
then download another media player and play a movie in there?
I’m curious if you will see ads in there as well.

I tried that, with VLC, an ad wasnt displayed, Ads are not displayed unless plex is running. I left the phone screen on for hours testing other applications. I even completely wiped the phone to factory settings, loaded up plex, saw an ad within 20 minutes of a video playing.

Doesnt matter if I UNInstall plex, When plex is not running ads never appear.

Google isnt going to send me ads which display nudity.
