Nvidia GT 1030 for transcoding in Linux

Hello,

I have latest version of PMS in a Linux server. I want to add a Nvidia GT1030 to get HW transcoding.

I want to know if it will work, I read in the Nvidia developers web that it has no NVENC, just NVDEC: https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix

Anyone has this card for transcoding?

Kind regards.

There are two parts to a transcode, decoding the video from the current format, and encoding it into the desired format.

As the 1030 does not support NVENC, it cannot be used for the encode portion of a transcode.

Suggest you look at a 1050 or better (i.e. a card with both NVENC & NVDEC).

Also, as shown in the Nvidia support matrix, GTX cards are limited to two concurrent transcodes (actually, two concurrent encodes and two concurrent decodes). A Quadro P2000 or better has no such limits.

You’ll also need to run PMS v1.17.0.1709, as it supports hardware decoding on systems with Nvidia GPUs.

Thanks for the reply.

The problem is that GT1030 is cheaper and there are models without fan. My server is a little one, so need a small and silent card.

Regards.

Here’s a fanless 1050 Ti:

Thanks again,

But too big for my little server. I need a low profile card.

Regards.

p400 might be suitable for you.

be advised, video ram is only 2 gig, which will only support 1x 4k transcode (if that is what you are looking for).

for small/half height cards, there are not any other choices that I have seen.

Thanks!

It looks great, the transcoding is only for mobile devices, so is OK for me with x1 4K transcoding.
