Nvidia Hardware Transcoding Not Working

1030 only supports decoding so if you have to transcode it won’t be handled by the GPU as that is encoding.

Yeah… Doesn’t work for me anymore as well, it was reliable for a while but now, only every so often, Setting the display adapter as primary fixes it but stops iLO from working so I’m just letting the CPU do it these days.

Every so often the 1030 does kick in, just randomly though, not reliably anymore.

Well that’s a bummer! I blew my VM away to get this working!

Any single slot low profile cards which do support encoding?

My link above has the matrix of cards and their support

Looks like a Quadro P400 may be an option then?

or 1050… depends on what you want to do with it and where you’re trying to use it.
Both have the same 2 stream limits and can be found at similar price points.

If you ever want to cannibalize for parts or play around with doing VM gaming the 1050 might be a better overall choice

Yeah, I’m using a Gen8 Microserver, and it doesn’t take a dual slot GPU I don’t think.

Can’t find a low profile, single slot GTX 1050, so that’s not an option.

I’m really hoping for a solution to keep just one version of a movie, but able to transcode them to ipads for the kids.

Will the P400 help in this situation do you think?

People have reported linux nvidia drivers are a bit wonky but technically I don’t see why it wouldn’t work if the 1030 did.

I’ve a gen8 microserver with 1260lv2 and a quadro p400.I used an ssd mount point as transcoding directory. Doesn’t work, don’t buy this gpu. I’ve the nvenc gpu usage always at 15% with 70Mb of ram used during the transcoding x265 2160 with subs and it start buffering every 2 secs.same thing from 2160 10bit to 1080 with subs. I can transcode from 2160 10 bit to 720 +subs with no issue.
With 2 transcoding 4k->hd+subs I’ ve better performance (1 video buffer another on another device nope). with 2 transcoding in parallel the video card usage don’t go over the 36%-40%. tested on debian stretch 9. I tested all the nvidia drivers (starting from the version ~370 over ~400) i tried the stable, the beta…always with the same results. That’s bad.I can see the movies in direct stream, but yee,I put the gpu money in the garbage for this p400.the drivers are closed soo we have no margin there apart to mod the kernel modules…but I’m reluctant to think that it will works…

Hi, i’ve the same problem with my dedicated machine. It’s an Htpc with Pentium g4400 and an Nvidia gtx 1080, 16gb RAM, Windows 10 pro, 2 wd Red 3tb
When i begin to watch a 4k movie (stored in the machine) that should be transcoded in 1080 for viewing on a fhd tv, i always have buffer every 4/5 seconds. The gpu doesn’t work as i can see in the msi afterburner.

The plex app is installed normally on Windows 10

I double checkd that hardware acceleration in options Is enabled, there’s a way i can force the use of the gpu ? I think maybe the system use the integrates graphics
