Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 7.9.0.8439
Hello all,
I unfortunately updated my SHIELD to version 7.2 yesterday. This update basically made my Plex server unusable. I had everything working on 7.1, including Live TV & DVR which is what the system is primarily used for. My storage location was setup as Internal (user), as I have an SSD for recordings and database, etc. I found it odd that after the update and a restart, Plex prompted me to set up the server, as if I had installed everything new. The server and installation that I had a few moments before was completely gone. Please note that this included my database and Live TV & DVR settings. Since there was no other way, I continued to setup the server from scratch and was able to find a few recent recording that were in storage.
Things, however, got worse. Every time I restart my SHIELD, the Plex server resets and I have to setup the server as new. Hence the title of this topic. I have done probably 5 or 6 factory resets in the past few hours and this issue persists. Every time I start Plex for the first time and run the setup, it seems fine. But if I restart my SHIELD, it again ask to be setup and I lose my previous server. At first I thought it was related to having my SSD as adoptable storage and setting up Plex storage as Internal (user), but I have tried it without the SSD and I get the same results. Again, I am performing a factory reset on my SHIELD and going straight to setting up Plex, nothing else.
Am I missing something? Right now I do not have an idea of what else to try, but Plex has become unusable after the SHIELD 7.2 update. I need to find a solution to this as it will prevent us from using the system for Live TV & DVR, which results in a lot of unhappy people in my household. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Iāve had similar issues: If I deselect the setup of default libraries during the plex server setup, I donāt lose any data. Itās a pain, but the server is back online right away.
Same issue here. Upgraded Shield Experince to 7.2.1 on 21.12.2018 and Plex Server is now broken. I may not even start it: I order to start the server, there is a waiting icon and then it return to setting page. I tried to power cycle the Shield (turn off and leave unplugged 5 min), but no result.
I had similar issue 2 months ago and 3 months for different reasons, related to usb pen internal storage, so I am quite bored to recreate the Plex Librariesā¦
if I disnistall and reinstall Plex and If I deselect the setup of default libraries during the plex server setup⦠may I save my data?
My setup:
nVidia Shield - 16GB 2017 (model P2897 ver 8.0.0 sw 7.2.1) with attached USB-PEN SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 64 GB (SDCZ430-064G-G46, 130 MB/sec)
Apart from the issues I mentioned in the OP, I also noticed that I can no longer connect outside my home network, which was not a problem before. I was so disappointed that I let it sit overnight.
Yesterday morning I did 2 more factory resets and encountered the same issues so I let it sit for a few hours.
I remembered that a few months ago I had some issues with my Plex server on the Shield not being found. One thing I did back then was to log out all of my clients and that solved the issue. So I went back to my Shield later yesterday to try that and noticed that there was a Shield 7.2.1 update available that apparently fixed several of the issues introduced by the 7.2 update. I decided to download and install it, and then do a factory reset. Before doing the reset I logged off my account in all clients and cleared caches or removed the app.
After what I did (7.2.1 update, logging off clients, and clearing caches/deleting apps) I again, for like the 10th time, set up Plex and performed several restarts, which showed that my settings persisted. I was no longer getting the new server setup. I then added my tuner for Live TV & DVR and set up some recordings. Last nightās recordings worked. I also performed more restarts to confirm that my settings remained.
I am currently in the process of rebuilding my libraries from scratch, and so far everything seems to be working in that respect.
Unfortunately, I still cannot connect outside my network after the 7.2 and 7.2.1 updates.
It is just very disappointing that we have to go through all these issues just to use the features offered by Plex, especially after a system update. There are still other unresolved issues, like the transcoding bug for Live TV that is happening when I use my Roku Plex clients, which supposedly causes the Shield to run out of memory and stopping Live TV. I am still awaiting a solution to this, which I believe they have been working on for several months. Overall, my experience so far has not been that great.
I am not 100% sure if there is a way to force an update to the Plex server on the Shield, but my guess is there might be one. I know that you can get your account on the beta channel and get the latest beta versions, but I have not tried it yet.
If thereās an updat for the PMS, just go to the Google Play Store. If there is either an update for the Server or player, it will be a separate update.
You canāt get a PMS update for the Shield in the Play Store. There is a more recent version than what my server is running as tensormaster seems to have it. I already have the most recent player build though.
Am having problems with Shield Plex too since the recent updatesā¦Plex runs locally but nothing else (browser/phone etc) can see it, is always unavailable. Been working fine for over a year and now its constant problems. Even did a factory reset on the shield and reinstalled all the updatesā¦no luck!
What I did after the 7.2 update
1 On the Synology NAS I uppped the accepted SMB version to SMB2 minimum
(test if u need SMB2 and large MTU - if you choose this option check if your network (switch) is set up to accept large mtu as wel)
2 I detached the network drives and then reconnected them anew.
I hate to hear when anybody has issues with updates, Iāve had my share, but, not this time. I donāt know why some users had issues, while others didnāt. Just for comparison here is my setup.
Iām in the USA and have a 2017 Nvidia Shield TV 16 GB, just purchased in October. This was my first SE Update. My Plex media is on a Lacie NAS. My Plex metadata was migrated to adopted storage weeks before the upgrade. ( BTW, that was most definitely a struggle, and would not work until I purchased an SSD with USB 3.0, attempts using Reccomended USB 3.0 thumb drives as adopted storage never completed migrating, requiring factory reset etc). I also have a secondary server on a Mac mini for users outside of my home network, with the identical library. I have a Plexpass and an HDHomerun Quatro network tuner providing Live TV/DVR .
My update to SE 7.2 was smooth, as was the update to SE 7.2.1 a few days later. As I have none of the issues others have reported, I have not flashed the 7.2.2 beta fix updates. The initial update took about 9 minutes, and an extra 3 for the remote, and controller updates, the following update took about 17 minutes.
All features of Plex work as expected, and DVR recording transfers actually seem a bit quicker.
I understand the frustration, and hope for quick resolutions for all users with issues.
Iām a new user to Plex as well as Nvidia Shield. Donāt want to play the āblame gameā but something definitely right. Latest version of firmware on Shield and latest version of Plex as of 22 Dec 2018. Have ārebuiltā Plex server multiple (>4) times each time I restart the Nvidia. The web GUI shows older server ābuildsā but indicates they are inaccessible.
Other outstanding issue is PVR within Plex. If viewing a current program, a scheduled record does not take place. Using USB AVerMedia [AVerTV Volar ] tuner. Also tried Hauppauge WinTV dual which Plex would not recognize (?) even though Nvidia Shield itself does see the Hauppauge USB tuner.
The above mentioned items make the Nvidia Shield-Plex Media Server of minimal value in my desired application. Canāt attach debug files as the server resets each time I do a warm start of Nvidia Shield.
Is that Aver Volar Hybrid a single or dual tuner? I didnāt see a dual tuner that was compatible, but I wasnāt really looking too hard. If itās a single tuner, I could see how a recording might fail if a user was using the tuner when the recording was scheduled.
Nvidia released a partial update for specific known issues, by completing a survey of what is effecting the user. Depending on where your media is stored, and the type of connection. Are you using a NAS? What type of connection?
Ok, so, yeah a single tuner wonāt be able to ātuneā a channel to view, and at same time ātuneā another for a scheduled recording.
Nvidia is listing a known issue with the SE 7.2.1 of not discovering some Hauppauge tuners. They are making available a test image of 7.2.2 which may help in your situation, as this particular known issue has been addressed.
Check this post, and if you are interested, fill out their survey with correct device serial number and they will send a specific image to your device.
