So just got the shield experience 9 upgrade and my plex media server has ‘vanished’
When I go into the plex app settings page the section for the plex server is blank (no options for starting or stopping the server or the storage setting)
Have tried multiple restarts and open to suggestions.
Hi same for me. Managed to get the server set up page but it stayed stuck on starting server please wait and then never completed. Its most probably that this update has broken something behind the scenes which will need a new PMS version but I guess we’ll wait and see.
Got mine running again. Try this. In the shield go to settings>apps>see all apps>show system apps and drill down to plex media server. Open it and drill down to permissions and set files and media to “allow all the time.”
@audiomixer what version of the PMS do you have? I tried the setting above but the server doesn’t appear to start. I just upgraded to the 9.0 experience and my PMS server stopped working. The PMS app shows as version 1.25.3.5385 (smb), updated on Jan 5, 2022.
I had the same version as you’ve quoted.
Please do not try to uninstall the service (clear cache at most), as mine is now struggling to start the PMS again.
Alas, neither setting fixed it for me. It still hasn’t started and I don’t see any settings listed under the PLEX MEDIA SERVER category in Settings of the Player app.
So when you get to permissions and before you open files and media says it says “allow?”
Also under settings>apps>app permissions>files and media, check that plex is allowed and upon opening check that “allow all the time” is checked.
I have the same problem and I tried changing the permission to allow all the time but still the server is not accessible. Tried to restart numerous times by pressing the reboot button but still nothing works. I’ve also went into the shield storage option and turned on scan storage for media files and nothing changed.
PS: My server data is on a USB external SSD that’s NOT formatted as internal storage. And I have the most up-to-date server and player from google play store.
Have tried all of the above including unpluging the shield with no joy. I’m afraid as suggested earlier this is probably something broken in the update…very frustrating…hopefully the plex team are paying attention and will have something soon
Yes, @audiomixer I did follow all those directions and did several reboots after that. I was very encouraged that you got it running but I haven’t been able to. It hasn’t started. I am going to try to unplug, if it makes any difference. Like @Mohammadwm I also have an external SSD where my plex libraries are. It just appears that PMS hasn’t started after the upgrade. Under my account, authorized devices, it still shows the Android 9 version that was fine, but hasn’t refreshed to the Android 11 that is supposed to be part of Nvidia Experience 9.0
I’m told we do have the server running on that version of shield firmware on test devices which is the update to Android 11 and have not run into that issue.
What version number of server do y’all have running on it? Can you check if there is an update.
Same Here, i’ve turned my Shield to 9.0 and no more plex Server.
So I uninstall all (plex client and plex Server) but now the plex app said that :
“A problem has been detected in a component at the heart of the Plex media server.”
My server was on a USB Hard Drive.
