NVidia Shield - An error occurred while attempting to play this video please check your connection and try later

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3711
Player Version#:

Been getting this error since last night - I can’t watch my videos directly from my Shield
But for some reason I can watch videos from the same server from Web and Mobile
Only videos played directly on the shield are giving me this error.

If someone can tell me how to pull logs from plex on shield, I’m more than happy to list

I’m having the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m also experiencing this. Has there been any update?

When you say “directly from Shield” do you mean your Plex media library is installed directly on the Shield or do you have this installed on an external drive or NAS?

When it comes to the Shield most controls will actually be on the Plex web interface.

You will also grab your Plex Media Server logs from the Plex web interface, not the Shield.

  1. Go to Settings > Manage > Troubleshooting in Plex Web App
  2. Click the Download Logs button

Same issue here. Everything was working properly, and suddendly, the error message. anyone found a fix?

Having the same problem with two nvidia shields. Both went down this morning. I can play my music but no videos. Works ok on web interface on chrome etc but not through nvidia shield. Unlikely both randomly went down on the same morning.

I am also having this issue as of a few days ago. Same behavior as everyone else.

Uninstalling all updates for the Plex app has returned playback. Which means this is most likely an issue with the latest update.

I can play my media on other tvs that connect to the the shield"s plex server (including through a browser), but the tv that the shield is plugged up directly will not play anything, just gives me that same error. The shield runs the plex server, while a hard drive contains the media that’s plugged up to the shield.

How to you uninstall the updates to the Plex app? I’d try that if I knew how. I’m having the same problem and will try anything.

What logs would anyone want to see to help? There has to be a solution to this. If anyone could help, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Was running into this but fixed it by:

  1. Installed latest update for plex media server on nvidia shield, update released 6/21
  2. Force stopped the plex media server service under settings → apps → system services
  3. Restarted NVIDIA Shield
  4. Plex Media Server was missing so I found the service again from (2) and hit Open which started the server again, everything plays without issue now

The Plex Media Server is a separate service than the normal app, something about the new NVIDIA shield experience broke it for me but fixed with above

Thanks for the reply, briguy.

Prior to my post, I had updated the plex server app but there was no change. My daughter was able to continue watching a movie upstairs on another tv so I figured the server wasn’t the issue. I didn’t restart again (my go-to when any electronic device has issues, that didn’t work in this case). I went to bed.

This morning, the plex on the tv the shield is plugged up to now works fine. I have no idea why. It didn’t appear to have restarted on its own as the plex app was still up. I dunno, but it works again…

Disabling “Secure connections” in Plex Media Server and on the Shield fixed it for me. This is not the best work around, so Plex needs to get this fixed ASAP!
