Plex Media Server not running on nvidia shield anymore

Hi,
since the latest update my plex server on my nvidia shield modell 2017 is not working anymore.

i have the latest plex server and nvidia shield firmware installed.

When i open plex on my nvidia shield and go to the start page it says “The content failed to load. This maybe because your servers are unavailable or your internet connection is down. Check your connections and retry”

the shield is connected to the internet (youtube and netflix work) and according to the setting plex server is running. I also restarted the shield but that did not help

does anyone has a clue how to solve this?

Same issue here, started today. I can however still view my library on my phone and Plex on chrome. I can cast my phone to the shield and play my library like that but I cannot directly play it on the Shield app.

Same issue here, started yesterday. Rolled to earlier version, then started working again. Once I ran the update the server became unavailable again.

Same issue here.
Server is on windows: 1.18.2.2058

Everything runs fine till you open the plex client on the shield.
Trying to do a rollback and will update if it worked or not.

Update: rollback to 1.18.2.2029 did not work.

I do not run Plex Media Server on my Shield, but I can confirm that the Plex app on my shield is unable to connect to any servers after installing the latest update from play store.

It seems that clients connecting crash the Plex server running on the shield. Just tried connecting to PMS now from my iOS Plex app and it lost server connection almost immediately. Saw the same with the latest Android Tv version on Fire TV although it seems ok when using 7.23 which is currently still the latest version from the Amazon App Store.

This is so frustrating: the Android Tv player app still shows a scrambled EPG and now the server crashes when the latest version of players try to connect. Very unhappy.

Plex team - would be grateful if you could address this ASAP please

I’m having same issue my servers not available on android On phone and Nvidia shield, I uninstalled all updates for Plex app taking it back to the original vanilla Plex app and hey presto all my servers show fine, ran to update app to latest version and back to no servers again, seem like bug in Android app, as web portal on plex.tv works fine, and I can cast from their to shield no issues it’s just Android app does not show any content as server shows offline. Any devs picked up on this yet?

I am having this issue as well. 2017 hardware. Vanilla version works great. Is there a place where I can download the last stable version that does not give the server unavailable message?

Rolled back to 1.18.0.1944 and iOS-App seems to work again. Can try Nvidia App tonight.

How can i install a previous version on the shield? i guess i cant do it via the play store and have to download it manually and use adb?

Go to apps on shield and uninstall updates but you will have the original version of app, no option to roll back update sadly I guess you could side load the apk

I have been able to solve the problem by logging out and logging in again. After this, the home screen was back.

I have my server on my shield and I am having the same problem as the first poster. Same message. Going to try and uninstall updates

I am having the same problems. I went so far as to factory reset my shield. I was able to get everything running except the DVR function. I have been digging through the logs. I am not an expert, but my guess is the new revision does not see the storage properly or it is not initializing the transcoder properly.

I hope this gets some attention soon. I am about to abandon Plex.

Yep, same problem here. Updated to Version#:1.18.2.2079 on my Nvidia Shield, and now it says server not running, but go into settings, and it says server IS running??? Very frustrating. Would be happier if Plex only brought out updates once a year. This seems to be happening every time there is an update, which is far too often. Can log in via web app from my laptop, and all is good, but that is no help when my Nvidia Shield is directly connected to my TV, as that is how I want to see my movies, on the TV, not my laptop.
Maybe Plex can develop and market their own media player…hint hint hint.
Might solve this regular “oh crap it’s broken again” merry-go-round we get on regularly.
Plex tech’s, you out there in cyberspace or what??
We would love some help.

Replacement update (same version number though) in the play store
installed that, and all working again

Same problem here. Can confirm that the latest update does not work on the Nvidia Shield. Error message: server not running, but go into settings, and it says server IS running? What gives? Restarts, logging outs/ins…no do! (Frustrated and was about to factory reset the shield until I found this thread and read @sp8ced2 comment). Uninstalled latest update, re-linked and presto, works fine.
More testing after my daughter finishes watching “descendants 3”.

Did you get this fixed or are you still running the old ancient version
