Nvidia Shield as a Plex Server (2019)

I purchased an Nvidia Shield 4K yesterday after reading that it makes for a decent Plex Server. I have a large collection of media, about 3.4TB sitting on a 4TB WD Passport USB disk and after setting it up and allowing it to scan my media over night, I attempted to use it this morning. Upon opening the Plex player, I watched it load thumbnails for about 3 minutes without completing; I then proceeded to try to navigate into a show and again waited several minutes while it opened. I wasn’t even able to start playback because spent 5+ minutes spinning on the season menu for one of my shows.

Is this normal? Is the Shield actually viable as a PMS, or was I just sold a lie? I’ve moved everything back to my dedicated PC because the Shield seems to be a joke for serving content.

First make sure you update to the latest version of PMS
then choose in options to move metadata to external drive
you prolly filled up internal drive with plex data which caused shield to come to a standstill

I can check this out however when I unplugged my USB drive the device instantly became snappy. It seems that the CPU on the Nvidia Shield is a major bottleneck for accessing a USB device. I will experiment.
