Nvidia Shield -USB drive corrupt with server data on

Hi,
I have an Nvidia Shield TV (2015) 16GB running plex media server.
My movies and music are stored on a NAS.
I have a USB thumbdrive (Sandisk USB 3.0 64gb) plugged into the Shield set as expandable storage.
Turned on the shield today after leaving a game installing last night to see an error that the game failed to install. Going into settings and my USB drive is now showing as disconnected.
Unplugging, rebooting etc does not fix it.
Now my Plex server is not available so I believe that my server data must have been on the expandable storage.
Does anyone know what my best option is to try recover this?
Thanks.

When I attempted to use my Shield as a server it simply had problems two or three times a day. I had a USB drive connected as well and Plex (or the Shield itself) corrupted the drive twice. I also had to remove and reinstall Plex three times. (Two of those required a full Shield reset.)

My recommendation is to find another server because you will never get Plex to fix their crappy server software on the Shield.

There are many many quite inexpensive PCs that are at least as good at being a server as the Shield is.

One further recommendation: Go with a standard operating system. Stick with Windows or Linux and only use Linux if you are already very comfortable with it. Maintaining a Plex server is not the place to learn a new operating system.

Oh: The only chance to recover that drive is to connect it to a Windows or Linux computer and use the OS’s disk tools to try and fix the issue.

Ill be honest I’ve never had a problem with Plex server running on the Shield until now.
It’s worked pretty flawlessly and the USB flash drive has been plugged in since 2017 without issue.
It’s frustrating that the server data has somehow ended up on the USB as I don’t recall choosing to move it there and there was still storage left on the 16gb internal. I guess the shield moved it there when I added the 64gb USB and set it as expandable.
I’ll look at trying to fix the USB drive using windows but seeing as the shield formats it a special way when using it as expandable I’m not sure I’ll be able to.
Thanks for your suggestions.
