Nvidia Shield defaults to optimised version

I have a decent library and I have a slowly increasing number of friends sharing my content.
I finally decided to wander down the “optimised versions” track rather than beef my current Plex Server to handle more transcodes.

My content is remux 4K content where possible, however, my internet connection has a 20mb/s upload. So, I was attempting to transcode down to 4mb/s (720p) for my friends. They don’t mind the tone mapping issues etc.

However, in my theatre room I am running an Nvidia Shield TV. Best client device imho especially handles atmos etc really well. Since I have started optimising my library, it only plays back the optimised version. I saw a previous thread where this was discussed - nVidia Shield TV always defaults to play the optimised version - but I haven’t seen any answers or solutions.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there any advice? Might just be time to beef up my server and ignore the issue - but it is cheaper to add more storage than keep changing out compute.

A workaround is to put the optimized versions in their own directory/library, then share that library with your friends instead of the library with 4K movies. They’ll see just the transcoded files, so you won’t have to transcode 4K files continuously. You’ll probably have to manually move the files, but you’ll only once for each movie, after creating the transcoded version.
