Nvidia Shield not playing some HEVC content anymore

Player Version#: 9.30.0.3604 NVidia Shield Client

It plays h264 just fine. Smaller HEVC files also play fine. However, movies that once played ok, not just get a spinning circle in the middle of a blank black screen. Plays / transcodes on a web page just fine as well. It just doesn’t play on Nvidia Shield anymore.

Plex server status shows nothing on the dashboard, so it doesn’t even seem to have the request to play.

Any suggestions where to look (logs / status) to determine what is going on?

I too have noticed that the Shield will barf on some HEVC files. the problem came and went a few times over the years, presumably due to intermittent issues with the Shield client.

When that happens I pick “convert automatically” and playback resumes.

Thanks for the note. Where is the “convert automatically” option?

If you go into the playback settings you should see it in there somewhere. The other option is to show all the settings, and you can pick a specific resolution/bitrate target if you want. Basically… If you force transcoding, it will play.
