Hi
For a plex server, which would be better.
Nvidia shield pro 2019 or Synology DS720+?
Thank You
Mario
Depends on your particular use case, e.g. but not limited to…
- what kind of media will you be playing?
- how many users will be using this server / how many parallel streams do you expect?
- are the clients you’ll be using capable to play the media as-is or do you expect the need for some transcoding?
You can always start with the Synology to test things out.
If it doesn’t work you can still use it for its storage and add a Shield or some mini-PC (e.g. a NUC) for the server.
Thank you for your reply
I am the ony one using it, mostly for streaming.
I have it on a Nvidia Shield but I have trouble accessing it outside my local network.
I thought installing the plex server on a Synology would be better.
Thank You
Mario
That’s probably about your home network setup, your router or restrictions by your ISP. Remote access on its own works the same if you’re running your server on the Synology or a Shield.
Thank you for your help
Yes it is my ISP, I have AT&T, I have to forward the port. I also have a QNAP NAS, I read some where that Plex worked better with synology.
Thanks’
