When I try and seek or resume a high bitrate 4k video (UHD Bluray Remux) on my Nvidia Shield in direct play it shows the first video frame with a loading yellow animation but never starts playing. The plex server shows no content playing. Starting the video from the beginning works albiet after several seconds.
If I set a bitrate limit to force it to transcode it plays fine without issue. The same file plays fine using other players on the Shield through SMB shares.
I factory reset, updated to the latest software and plex client to check it wasnât another setting or app I had causing issues. The Shield is wired to a switch that the server also is connected to. I also swaped out the cable runs just to be sure that wasnât faulty.
Server and Client logs attached. Is it something to do with the repeating line Target buffer size reached with less than 500ms of buffered media data in the shield log?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Server Version#:1.25.9.5721
Player Version#: 9.0.4.31825(02cc0416)
I have the same problems with large remuxed 4K HDR HEVC x265 video files played at original quality through my home wired network. Smaller x265 media plays normally and the player control is responsive
I am running: Plex Media Server version 1.25.9.5721-7000 in a Synology DS3617xs NAS with the latest DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3 and
Watching videos on a Nvidia Shield TV Pro running Plex version 9.0.4.31825 or on my laptop and desktop Windows PCs Plex version 1.43.3.2951-1d73e3f3
My Nvidia Shield TV Pro is running Shield Android TV SW Version 9.0.1 (33.1.0.283) and (I think) Android TV version 11 - I am not sure whether it did an update before all this trouble happened with Plex
and my network is a gigabit connection to the Nvidia Shield and to my desktop PC but WiFi to my laptop
My Plex client on my Windows and Nvidia Shield TV stopped working with the same problems as above since the last Plex media server (on my Synology) and Plex player (Shield and Windows) upgrades around end of March 2022 (about a week ago). The Plex player stops / freezes when I fast forward or jump ahead to another chapter and shows the the orange circle on a frozen image in the video or black screen indicating itâs processing something but it does not play at all.
I have tried the âOptimize Databaseâ and âClean Bundleâ and the optimizing helped speed it up a little for a short while but reverts back to the same frozen state when I try to fast forward in Nvidia Shield Plex and on Windows Plex players. This is despite updating to the latest Synology Plex Media Server (above).
I have then tried installing PMS on the Nvidia Shield and it plays the large HEVC files but was slow / sluggish and then it now freezes and shows the the orange circle on a frozen image in the video indicating it processing something but it does play after a long 5-10 time. This is an improvement over using the PMS on my Synology.
I have then tried to playing the large HEVC media on the Synology NAS with NOVA Video Player and Jellyfin on the Nvidia Shield with the Jellyfin server on my Windows PC using media from the Synology NAS and these all play all of the very large 4K HDR HEVC x265 video files quickly and the controls are very responsive with only maybe a slight lag on the Jellyfin during chapter hopping or fast forwarding.
So this indicates this is a problem with Plex Media Server and Plex Player on the Synology NAS and Nvidia Shield. Since DSM 7 has not changed for a few weeks, I conclude it must be a problem with the recent PMS and Plex player updates or maybe the updates in the Nvidia Shield interfering with Plex (but not Jellyfin or NOVA player).
Since 2 days on my pro Shield 2019 : impossible to lanch big files 4k HDR or DV. In fact, that was ok two times when i put the video at 2 min ; 3 min ; 4 min ( i waited 5 min before it worked )
Since 1 month on my Shield 2017 : impossible to lanch Big files 4k HDR or DVâŠ
No problem with KODI for these files.
I used :
NAS Synology 920+
Router gigabit
Anyone for help pls ( iâm french, sorry for mây Bad english )
My current âfaultyâ âpublicâ Plex player version is 9.0.5.31871
The Plex player beta version is 9.1.0.31834 and is working fine with all the very large HVEC x265 remuxed movie files again with full Atmos / DTS-X sounds !
Note: Beta testing sounds potentially problematic too but it has fixed todayâs problem. I will leave the beta testing once the public version reaches 9.1.0.31834 or something stable and functional
