Nvidia shield plex client initially not playing external srt subtitles

This started happening just recently but I have my account to always use subtitles. When I play a media that has an external srt sub selected, it pre-selects it before playing but when I play the media there is no subtitle. I would need to pause the playback, choose an embedded sub, choose the external srt again, and then it will work.

Any ideas? @anon18523487

@ChuckPa

I posted this in reddit and it looks like it is happening to other people too and only for 4K media.

Not without logs. Also, what player are you using? If it is PMP, that is no longer supported so I’m no going to look at that. If you can reproduce with another client and provide both server and clint logs, I can look at those.

Oops, sorry I had the wrong tag. I’m using the Nvidia plex client. I can reproduce it easily. I’ll get both server and client logs and post back.

Please collect both the player logs and the server debug logs ZIP file.

Attach both please.

I’ll be available this weekend and will be able to get the log files for you. It’s still happening, even with 1.29.1.6260 installed. Super annoying bug.

It also explained with more detail here: Subtitles shows as selected but not shown when playing

Sorry for the delay too, life got in the way. I can provide the server and client logs probably within this week.

@ChuckPa ,

Attached are the logs for the server and the player.

I selected the subtitles prior to playing the file. I let it run about 35 seconds, and subtitles were not displaying on screen. I then turned off the subtitles while it was playing, then back on, and they started showing after that. It only does this on HDR/DV media. If I play a HD file with subtitles it works fine. I didn’t capture that, but if I need to, let me know.

Thanks.

‘crickets… crickets…’

I’m running into the same issue on my Shield Pro. Every time I play a 4k video, I need to turn off subtitles, or switch to a different subtitle file, and then re-select the original subtitle file for it to work. Happens on both movies and tv shows, 1080p and below work fine.

edit: does anyone know what the last working version of the client was? I’d like to rollback until this is confirmed fixed. I’ve been waiting patiently update after update but it’s been over a month now.

Yes, I get this issue too. Extremely annoying.

@ChuckPa were you able to look into this annoying issue?

I’ve been able to reproduce.
I also found a case where PGS subtitles don’t display.

I’ve submitted to the team to fix.

Sorry for not replying back here until now.

The workaround (annoying) was to

  1. Start playback
  2. Turn off subtitles
  3. Turn them back on
  4. Observe subtitles are now OK

Thanks! Is there a way we can monitor the progress of the fix?

I think the latest beta fixed it. At least for me.

Looks like 9.12.0 released yesterday fixed the issue, thanks!

Hi there,

Could u help me to take a look on THIS? Pretty much the same issue on iOS, external subtitle can’t load, burned subtitles works fine. And same media with same external subtitle also works good on macOS & web.

It’s been quite long. I posted twice and the first post even got closed because it spent more then 3 months and zero response…

@ChuckPa has this been fixed already? I remember having the same issue a few days ago.

This has all been resolved.

I’ve run through internal and external subtitles with 9.12.2 and there are no issues.

Please do check your version and update if appropriate.
