Nvidia Shield Plex in Kiosk Mode on Television?

Hi there,

I’ve seen some older posts asking over Kiosk modes for museums and computers, but I was wondering if you could set up an NVIDIA Shield that’s running Plex in a Kiosk mode, so whenever you turn on the tv it’s only playing what’s in your library?

The scenario would be a tv in a bar, that would play shows in your library whenever the tv is turned on. An employee wouldn’t even have to look for the library and press play, it would just be running as soon as the Shield and TV (not the Pro) were turned on. The Shield would access the Plex Media Server on a computer in the office. Is this something that exists or needs to be a request? Or is it just too complicated.

Thanks in advance.

That is not a feature. Keep in mind that Plex is meant for personal use, not commercial. Having it run in a bar may be against the terms of use. Also, unless you own the rights to broadcast the movie, having it run in a public setting like a bar may expose you to copyright infringement issues.

So when you have a TV on in a bar, that’s not copyright infringement?

No because the tv station or streaming service has the right to broadcast that movie/show. If you use a Plex server, then the Plex server owner needs the right.

Thanks for alerting me to this, because I never thought of it. A quick Google search on the subject led me to the MPLC Blanket License which businesses can buy in order to show copyrighted media.

Thanks again
