Nvidia Shield Plex server cant decode DTSHD-MA audio tracks

Server Version#: 1.15.8.1126

Shield Plex has HDMI Passthrough enabled. All movies with Atmos decoding perfectly. Only mkv files with DTSHD-MA does not decode corectly for some reason. It falls back to NeuX
Anyone can help or has clue why Plex cant handle most of the MA tracks? I have few movies and think 2 DTS demo that correctly decodes MA audio. but most are unable. Demo mkv files are coming from DS218+ NAS

To what is the Shield attached - TV/receiver/soundbar/etc? Make/model?
Does that device support dts-HD MA?
What is NeuX?

In the Shield Plex client, set Display Information = On. During playback, pull up the on-screen controls (tap bottom of ring on remote, pause video, etc).

Look in upper left corner of TV. It will tell you if video/audio is direct play, direct stream, or transcoding. If transcoding it will provide a reason.

What does it show when you’re playing a video with a dts-HD MA soundtrack selected?

Any chance you’re using a Denon receiver?

NeuX is a sound field setting on the Denon (aka DTS Neural:X)

See http://manuals.denon.com/AVRX2200W/EU/EN/OBAOSYyriqsmlp.php.

If the Shield reports Direct Play for the audio, then it is correctly bitstreaming (passthrough) the audio to the Denon.

Check the various sound fields for your receiver. Make sure you have the correct one selected.

Also, while playing the video, press the INFO button on the Denon remote. If permitted by the Denon’s configuration, it will display the codec, channel mapping, etc on-screen.

Yes i’m using Denon X2400H ARV

From denon info on screen it shows this when playing dts-HD MA track
Sound DTS-HD + Neural:X
Singal DTS-HD MSTR

My setup is as following.
Shield goes direnctly with HDMI to receiver x2400h then from reciever with HDMI ARC out to TV (LG OLED55B7V) also HDMI arc. I’m using Netflix to get dolby atmos is reason for arc. But this should’nt be problem to play DTSHD Ma with arc connection?

My speaker setup is 5.1.2 with atmos speakers. Sound mode is movie.
From Denon sound setup i dont see options what to look for http://manuals.denon.com/AVRX2400H/NA/EN/GFNFSYecktvkie.php. In video/HDMI menu Denon is setup to HDMI pass through.

So if singal is master audio i dont get why output is NeuralX. Both cables are HAMA premium HDMI.
Shiled -> AVR is 0.75m
https://www.hama.com/00122209/hama-premium-hdmi-cable-with-ethernet-plug-plug-ferrite-metal-075-m
But AVR to TV is 3m
https://www.hama.com/00122211/hama-premium-hdmi-cable-with-ethernet-plug-plug-ferrite-metal-30-m

Recheked speakers amp assigne all is correct.
Assigned mode Front dolby (dolby upwards direction speakers).
Support Format Dolby Atmos, DTS:X

Problem solved
Bloody Denon and its configuration. Cycled Movie mode a lot until i saw DTS-HD MA

I’ve a Denon 4300H, also in 5.1.2, and the same TV.

The yellow button on my remote cycles through Auto -> Direct -> Pure Direct sound fields. The red/green/blue cycle through other sound fields.

Auto: Shows dts + Neural:X when playing a dts/dts-HD audio stream. The Neural X sends some sound to the .2 speakers instead of just using the 5.1. The OSD via the INFO button shows not just the input, but also which speakers are active (w/ my unit, anyway). With NeuralX, all speakers are active.

Direct: Plays the audio direct. Sends sound to the 5.1 speakers only for dts 5.1 audio.

Pure Direct: Maps audio same as Direct. Turns off some features in the Denon to provide a purer sound. Stuff like the front panel display, etc. Might make a difference if I had some high resolution audio, but nothing I can hear for movies.

There are several other sound field settings with different channel mappings, amounts of delay, etc. Useful if you need to force 2 channel output or similar, but I rarely use them.

I usually just run Auto mode. One other advantage is that for movies with just a 2.0 audio track, it does a good job of placing dialog on the center channel. When I’m listening to music and want only L+R audio, I switch to Direct.

Anyway, you’ve got things working. You’ll find the settings you like best and use most. Just takes a bit of experimentation.
