I’m experiencing the same issue. If you figure out a solution, please let me know.

Not luck so far. I tried to restart the Shield, update to the latest Plex Media Server. Still won’t start. Not sure how to figure out what’s wrong.

I’m having same problem. It worked on my Shield TV for a couple days, now it doesn’t. I’ve tried getting it up on my computer again, I’ve read and read and read, and tried everything suggested but have not found a solution. I’m stumped.

I ended up just rebuilding my server from scratch. After a clean install I tried to restore my plex data but the server wouldn’t start so I trashed it and reconfigured everything. It’s all working now. Not the solution I wanted, but at least it’s working now. I lost my watch history and collections/playlists etc.

How did you figure out the one that was working?

I tried that. You can’t totally uninstall Plex on Shield. You can uninstall updates, but not the whole thing. I uninstalled updates, the reinstalled updates. It told me I had a couple servers to chose from. I knew that. That’s what started this. I had four servers. Two very old ones that I wanted to delete. I deleted a wrong one. But now, there it was asking which I wanted to sign into, my computer one or the shield one that had disappeared. I got excited and picked the shield server, but it still doesn’t show up in my authorized devices on the web, nor on plex anywhere but in the settings where it shows as running.

I uninstalled the PMS updates only, which takes it back to the default Plex media Server. Reinstalled PMS v*3711 (the one that worked for me). Doing it that way won’t interfere with the already installed Plex media player. Note… Do not uninstall the PMP updates, if you do that you will have to redo your full menu list/hubs setup.

Thank you, but I did all that. I’m not worried about having to repopulate everything. I just installed it. Not much there. But, having done it, Shield server still doesn’t show up in plex web under authorized devices. I know it’s there, because it shows up when plex asks me which server I want to use (when directing backup and storage and lists this one as one of two. It also shows as running in settings/plex server. It just doesn’t show up when I want to start adding to it in the web app.

I was finally able to have the latest beta version work again on my NVIDIA Shield Pro. I uninstalled the PMS app completely and then re-installed it. During the setup, I had to choose internal storage because pointing it to my external USB drive made it stop. Once I saw it running, I was able to point it to the external drive and update the library directories. My stored TV shows and movies were recognized and showed up. I had to redo the DVR setup, recording scheduling, and general server settings.

Side note: I am not sure why Plex does not have the ability to export/import server settings (from a file for instance). It seems weird that it does not have this functionality.

The shield showed up as a new server on plex web and I had to remove the non-working instance. I also had to force stop and restart the plex client on the shield after that, otherwise it would still show the non-working instance and the new instance was not fully recognized properly.

I hope this helps someone.

How did you uninstall the PMS app completely? I tried and it wouldn’t let me uninstall anything but the updates. When I looked at plex, it looked like the first version. Then I reinstalled the updates and was back to square one.

On the shield pro, I open the System Menu (top right button on the remote), then go down to ‘Apps’, then enable ‘Show System Apps’, then go all the way down to ‘Plex Media Server’. Finally I click on ‘Force Stop’ and then ‘Uninstall’.

Thats uninstall updates there too. There’s no way to uninstall the entire PMS. They’ve made a deal with Shield, just like Prime, Amazon Amazon Music and a bunch of others. You can disable them and you can uninstall updates but the app is still there. I’m happy you got your problem fixed. I know the frustration and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. Thanks for your effort here.

OMG! I figured it out. It’s so simple. Okay, here it is:

Shield System Menu / Apps / See All Apps / Show System Apps (down at the bottom, but it may be somewhere else in apps, depending on your Shield. I have a 2017) / scroll to “Plex Media Server” / Clear Data.

That’s it. When you go back into Plex, it starts setting up your Shield server from scratch again. It shows up in the web app again, and in the Plex menu again just like before I goofed up and accidentally deleted it from the web app.

Thanks “therealgilles” if not for you directing me to where the system app place was I never would have found the server and never figured this out. Man, 6 days of trying to figure this out. Thank you!

Quick question: but this will “reset” als stats like media viewed and custom posters etc., right? I was hoping to get a “real fix”, waiting for a bug fixed version and keep all these.

Thanks!

Sorry, but the choice was to have no usable Shield server, or full use of the Shield server. I got that with this fix. When something is deleted, likely there’s no getting it back in any form. I’ll take what I can get since I was the one who deleted it, not a bug. Good luck on your search.

@labonne1900: It’s hard to know when a proper fix will be available. I have not seen any attention from the Plex development team and it’s hard to expect them to look at something without proper logs and some kind of cause. The Windows ecosystem is surely getting more love due to its size.

@Tazamaraz: I’m with you because I use PMS most for TV recordings and don’t care about stats and custom posters. But I understand people who care about them and have invested time in them would be very disappointed when losing them.

I just tried this:

and everything is up again, no rescan, nothing, just two clicks… maybe I was just stupid and everybody knows this already or you having another problem, but if just makes one person as happy as me now - the post is worth it…
