Hello everyone, I’m in desperate need of assistance.
This is my new Plex set up.
Plex Media Server, 2013 MacBook Pro Retina
Nvidia Shield 2017 is plugged into my Yamaha YAS 107 7.1. Soundbar with an HDMI 2.0 cable.
My my Yamaha YAS 107 7.1. Soundbar is plugged into my Samsung 4K TV UE55KU6470 on the HDMI ARC port via an HDMI 2.0 Cable.
Now using the Plex app on my Samsung I can Direct Play without any transcoding DTS 7.1 audio and EAC3 5.1, with audio coming through the Soundbar.
However every time I have to go into the settings select bitstream for HDMI Audio Format and either Dolby Digital for EAC3 5.1 or DTS for DTS 7.1 on Audio Format.
So I can play my content but I do have to keep on changing these settings manually, as there is no auto option as it switches to PCM by default.
Now here comes in the NVIDIA Shield, I leave my Samsung Audio Format on as Dolby Digital and it Direct Plays everything perfectly without transcoding but EAC3 5.1, I don’t receive audio.
My Plex settings are Direct Play (Forced), Direct Stream (On), Passthrough (Auto), Refresh Rate (On).
Nvidia Shield Settings Surround Sound (Always)
So in the end the TV can play the EAC3, the soundbar can play EAC3, but the NVIDIA Shield can’t?
Make sure you have current version of Plex app on the Shield. The version that ships on the unit is most likely out of date. Current Version is 7.12.0.
Plex App on Nvidia Shield settings:
Advanced -> Passthrough = HDMI
Video -> Display Information = On
Video Quality -> Adjust Automatically = Off
The YAS-107 Owners Manual (HDMI signal, Audio signal, pg 41) says it supports bitstreaming Dolby Digital and dts audio. It is unclear if this includes Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3) and dts-HD (dts 7.1 is dts-HD), as they are not specifically listed as included or excluded.
During playback on the Shield, pull up on-screen controls (tap bottom of ring on remote, pause video, etc). Information Overlay will appear in upper left corner.
What does it show when playing media with the various codecs - AC3/EAC3/dts/dts-HD?
If transcoding, either audio or video, what reason is shown?
How does what is shown on-screen align with what is shown by the soundbar’s Decoder Indicator (Green = Dolby Digital; Red = dts; Off = PCM)?
Many of us have the same problem: Nvidia Shield EAC3 audio stopped working
Latest version on PMS and Player, audio system capable of doing EAC3 and all the rest.
