Nvidia Shield TV - Performance Away from Home

Plex works great in my home, Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD on Nvidia Shield TV, can stream live TV at native resolution to any device (Android phone, tablets, etc).

BUT … access when away from home (on same devices) is horrible. Live or recorded TV (even setting quality to lowest) has continuous pauses. Music takes 30 seconds or more to start from my music library.

Doesn’t matter if I’m on cellular (LTE) or Wifi.

My internet service measures 15Mbps upload speed that certainly should handle the content. Also everything is ethernet connected.

For now … this is basically an in home device from my experience. Calling it “Access from anywhere” is very misleading.

i’m guessing that for whatever reason, your content is being transcoded when streaming remotely – have you checked into your server settings?

What is “Internet Upload Speed” and “Limit remote speed bitrate” set to?

I have those values populated with 10 Mb per second upload speed and 2Mbps (720P).

Keep in mind I’m running this on an Nvidia Shield TV, not an actual windows PC. PLEX server/client comes installed on the device. The product is billed as a personal Plex server, For local content streaming as well as streaming away from home.

Shield 2015 (upgraded with 64GB microSD), WinTV-DualHD, WD My Cloud Storage (ethernet). High speed cable internet service.
