Shield TV not resizing videos

Hello. My shield tv is set as 4k and connected to a 4k tv…

Often when I start playback of something that isn’t 4k the video stays centered in the original resolution, with black bars at the four sides. This happens using both the new or the old player, and to play correctly I have to stop the playback and start it again.

It’s been happening for some months now and everything is up to date. How could I fix it?

There’s a Display Mode setting that you may need to look at.

To get to it:

  1. Start playing a video.
  2. On the player control bar, go to the Action menu (far right)

  3. Select ‘Playback Settings.’
  4. Use the ‘Display Mode’ slider at the bottom of the list.

The setting persists, so it should apply to any video you play until you change it again.
