nVidia Shield "Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video"

Here’s the log files, I played Ready Player One, it thinks it’s on WAN when both devices are on lan. Server is running on a NUC on linux and natively installed.

client.log (52.8 KB)
Plex Media Server.log (185.2 KB)

I rolled my Shield back to 7.2.0 and now Plex works fine without interruption.

Interesting. Since reinstalled plex media server and rebuilding the server from scratch playback has been much better, not perfect, but 100% better. Might try rolling back if it’s not too much of a pain to do.

@MwC_Trexx I posted logs as requested for you.

Thanks… I haven’t had time to look at them, but am getting an issue tracker opened up to help funnel this to the developer who has been looking into it at Plex.

Awesome, (wasn’t being impatient just wanted to make sure you’d see it). Want me to spin a new thread rather than clutter this one?

I think we are fine in here as it helps aggregate the issue in one place. I have separate folders for the various people I am getting the logs from.

For issues that turn out to be unrelated, then I would say move them to another post.

I’d class this one as unrelated personally, this is to do with the plex incorrectly determining whether a client is LAN or WAN based, this thread was about the buffering message, I just happened to mention the this particular issue and thankfully you picked up on it. Happy to leave it here though, just don’t want to annoy people with something they may think is unrelated.

Let’s create a new thread then. Your right, this one is unrelated to the earlier issue.

This has also started happening to me about the same time. Gigabit networking to the shield. Did a speed test on the connected switches and everything runs fine there otherwise.

+1 on this. I use PMS in docker with host as networking, I’ve set 192.168.0.34 as prefered NW-interface in PMS setting. I just now stresstest my PMS with 7 trancode-streams and 3 direct plays on other devices then the shield. No problem at all. When playing from the shield it take 20-30 minute then this “You connection speed is too low …” message. Its wired networking, latest update, 7.2.2 I think. No problem on any other devices with the same files.

Try forcing a transcode on your Shield, I bet it plays without interruption. There’s something amiss and this is the only way I can get around it. It’s been happening since December.

That’s exactly what I’ve done as a workaround but I hate doing it as quality gets degraded when everything should be able to direct play.

Transcoding is a terrible solution for a device that is 4k compatible. Why should I transcode 4k. Honestly disappointed I got my shield in Nov. And have had a month of it working. And now I can’t get through a 30 min show without it stopping with a network too slow error. Roku and Apple TV no issues. I think this needs fixed.

I don’t disagree. It is an awful non-solution.

Yeah the fact that I am looking at a replacement for the most expensive player that is supposed to be the best is insanely stupid. And who is at fault? Plex? Nvidia? Who can I start opening bug reports to left and right.

I have an open ticket with NVidia. They say Plex is working to fix it but my ticket has been open since January. Honestly, Shield Experience 7.1 worked fine but we can’t roll back. It’s something with the OS that changed that must be causing the issues. The same client works perfectly fine on my Sony Android TV running an older version of Android.

Exactly my Sony 850e works great…I have started using xplay on the shield to play my content while waiting for plex or nvidia to get this resolved

How do I force the shield to transcode? I’ve tried set it to 1080p 20mbit for a file, but tautullli still say “Direct play” ?

Same issue, has this not been fixed YET? How can this still be a problem? When i got my shield it was perfect and now it’s useless. I have tried every file in my collection with the same result. Also, why does Plex insist it’s a network issue when it is clearly a software bug? Getting sick and tired of all this stuff breaking constantly, honestly…
