Occasional choppy video playback

Since the latest updat I’ve noticed a regular but seemingly random choppy video playback issue.

It seems like a refresh rate issue but it goes away if I press a combination of the info button, the osd button & the play/pause button.

I first noticed this whilst using the aeon Nox skin, I thought maybe this was caused by aeon Nox being a resource heavy skin and tried to limit the gui updates during playback, this didn’t fix it. Now I have gone back to plex black edition the problem persists.

I can’t replicate this at will so it’s difficult to pinpoint a particular type of file that may be triggering this.

One thing that does seem to trigger a stutter in video playback is subtitles, especially if there has been a long gap in between sets of subtitles. I think these are two separate issues though as the subtitle stutter is generally only a single event

I am running a RPi2 with a HifiBerry DAC+

Any ideas?

Have you changed any settings in Advanced Vdeo?

I have adjust display refresh rate set to On start/stop
& pause during refresh rate change set to 2.0 seconds
Limit gui updates during playback is currently set to 10fps

Everything else is in advanced video is standard

Try setting refresh rate to ‘Always’ and Pause during refresh rate to ‘Off’ and Sync playback to display as checked.

I’ll try that & let you know if it’s any better.

Quick question - A/V Sync method, should that be Adjust PLL or Resample Audio?

I think Adjust PLL but I’m interested to know what the recommended setting would be

Resample Audio.

@NedtheNerd Does this mess with 24P playback or audio decoding?

It would mess with passthrough but not decoding.
