Odd behavior with PlexConnect - have to restart app

I have a fresh 0.5-dev install of PlexConnect running on Windows 2012 R2, configured as a service.  I have an ATV2 that I upgraded to version 6.2.1.  I used the guides to configure both PlexConnect and the AppleTV to communicate properly.  When I set all of this up 2 days ago, everything was working fine initially.  Later in the day, pulling up ATV2 apps like ESPN, Netflix, etc. were exceedingly slow.  I restarted the PlexConnect service, and everything was back to working well.

This morning I tried to use the ATV2 and again, apps weren't coming up.  I did a restart of the ATV2, and after rebooting only the Computers and Settings icons appeared.  I restarted it again, and same thing.  The minute I restarted the PlexConnect service app, all of the app icons came back on the ATV2 without restarting, and everything started working again.

I'm not sure what's going on here, so any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Please read the Pinned “Read Before Posting” thread specifically the section on how to report a problem and provide all the information requested in the template, especially the log file. Also confirm that your Plexconnect machine is not in a DMZ or that port 53 is not open to the Internet

I'll report the issue the next time this happens.  This morning I thought the same thing was going to happen but the ATV2 is working well with both Plex and other ATV2 apps.  Also, my PlexConnect system is not in a DMZ and port 53 is open to the internet.

port 53 is open to the internet.

This could be your problem,  Plexconnect's DNS processor is not secured, so any hacker can use your DNS for their attacks.  this causes Plexconnect to be hammered with connections and stop it being able to efficiently process the ATV requests.  Post 53 should never be open to the internet unless you know how to secure it correctly.

Oops, I meant that port 53 is not open to the internet!  Any system within the LAN can check DNS, but yeah my firewall is locked down pretty well.
