Server Version#: 1.19.3.2852
Player Version#: 1.11.0.1215-1d8c460c
Server and Client are both running Windows 10 pro version 2004, OS Build 19041.264
I have a few people who access my server but are required to download movies due to their limited download speeds. The below is from my observations:
-
When a download is started, it must be completed without disconnection to the server, if the player is disconnected from the server, for any reason, the download starts all over. This means if the server or client is restarted, the ISP has an connection issue, or the server of client loosed internet connection for any other reason the download has to start from the beginning. For instance a 4k movie may be 50 GBs for a user with a slow internet connection and that can take 2-3 days to download. If at day 3 the internet connection gets temporarily severed then the download will need to start again and it will take another 3 days instead of just downloading what was left to be downloaded. Being able to pick up a download where it left off would be a great help.

The Plex server does not show current downloads or sync’s that are progress. The only way to tell is to look at the bandwidth chart in the dashboard and understand what bandwidth is currently being used for streaming and determine the delta in bandwidth usage. Having an option to display downloads / syncs in the dashboard, the progress of the download by the User would be a great help.

Downloaded movies do not show up on history as played by the user. This isn’t a huge concern but that means downloaded films that are then played do not show up in the server history. This would be a good feature to fully understand the utilization of the server.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I’m not sure how many people use the download feature for movies but it gives people the ability to watch full 4k movies when they have a slower internet connection. To me, it’s a very useful feature and I would love to see some improvements or learn how other people handle downloads.
Thanks!
