What did you change in recent updates to cause this NIGHTMARE for your dedicated users?

After reading all the forums and blogs . . . THOUSANDS ARE AFFECTED by this and are wasting thousands of hours troubleshooting and trying to find a work around.

Everyone is trying everything they can to get their PLEX - Remote Access to give them the GREEN “Fully accessible outside your network” LIGHT!

You need to either FIX your updates or publish an Article specifically outlining appropriate settings and/or workarounds to this issue.

I have a Static LAN (Private) IP address
My ISP will not allow me to have a Static WAN (Public)
I’ve reserved every Internal and External TCP and UDP Port I can.
I’ve set up FTP.

And YES, I’ve gone through all the steps at https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access/ and Remote Access Qnap

Everytime I “RETRY,” it says . . .

“Fully accessible outside your network”
for about 2 seconds, then changes to

“Not available outside your network”

I toggled UPnP and it now says Fully accessible, but it also says
Private Unknown IP (Red X) and Public Unknown IP (Red X).
Unchecked Manually specify public port.

Then back to “Not available outside your network”

What’s the BOTTOM LINE?

Public static IP is not necessary.

Use a manual port forwarding statement in your router instead of UPnP.

The only port you need to forward for Plex is TCP/32400. Make sure it is not blocked by firewalls, etc (disable them for testing).

Check the box for “Manually specify public port” and leave it at 32400. If you wish to use a different port, then configure it in your router’s port forwarding statement.

The “Not available outside your network” message is at times a false negative. Use canyouseeme.org to verify if your server is available remotely. It will automatically pick up your public IP address. Put in 32400 (or whatever port you use) to check Plex remote access.

Once you have remote access working, consider using services such as uptimerobot.com (free) to monitor remote access. With the free account it will monitor availability as often as every five minutes and send you an e-mail if it cannot reach your server.

Why does Plex say this about Ports?

Ports Assignments Required

Because it is correct.

However, you must read the entire document, as context matters.

Specifically, this statement:

Note : This article is discussing ports in the local firewall of the computer running Plex Media Server. This is not discussing ports on a router.

If you’re using a VPN… This may help.

Additional information:

Upgrade to PMS 1.19.2.2737 or later.

There was an issue with earlier 1.19.2 releases. Remote access would incorrectly show as unavailable. Resolution required a PMS update and a fix at plex.tv. Some users have reported the problem still exists. However, it seems fixed for most people.

Same issues - fixed by making sure my system default gateway to the internet on my QNAP NAS was set as the one referenced by plex for remote access. i.e the ip addresses match

Just updated to 1.19.4.2935. Still not fixed for me. What’s weird is that I only started running into this issue within the last week or two, after having zero remote access issues/little red x’s previously. No configuration changes made; it just started happening out of the blue. It’s gremlins, I tell you!
