Remote access unavailable

I’ve read the Troubleshooting Remote Access page and I’ve tried everything but I just can’t get Plex remote access to work.

  • I disabled antivirus, Windows Defender firewall and also router firewall;
  • I tried both static and automatic IP`on the server;
  • On router, I activated the UPNP option and forwarded the port using 32400.

The result is always the same: initially shows up the message “fully accessible outside your network”, but then after 5 seconds it changes to “not available outside your network”.

I checked the public IP and Plex got it right.

The port forwarding configuration on the router is as shown below:

In protocol, I tried both TCP and UDP.

Ive spent hours on this and just cant find any solution. What else can I do to solve this?

There’s no reason to keep UPNP activated if you go with a manual port forward (unless you need it for some other service).

That basically means it’s not working.
Plex keeps the “positive” status while running the remote access connectivity check and only switches it once it’s confirmed not to work.

Plex only needs TCP.

As for troubleshooting…

  1. Can you access/see the forwarded port from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org)?
  2. Does the public IP recognized by canyouseeme.org match your router’s WAN IP (public IP) and the public IP listed on your PMS’s remote access settings?

  1. I tried canyouseeme.org and two other services: all of them didn`t see the fowarded port. I even tried some other ports just to… well for the sake of some hope. None of them worked.
  2. Yes, the public IP recognized by canyouseeme.org matches my public IP.

While the result isn’t great, it’s good you already tested this on a wider scope. The different services should all see the same, but it’s helpful to verify if it’s just that specific port or others too (I usually recommend to test one totally random port in the range from 10000 to 50000, and one common one, like 80 or 8080).

As that’s not working and you don’t seem to be in a CGNAT situation (or having your router hidden behind more active network components — with the public IP matching across the different instances)… your best shot will be to contact your ISP and ask them if they’re blocking those ports, and more importantly if they’re willing/able to unblock one of them for you (doesn’t have to be 32400).

I’ve tried many ports (almost 10). None of them worked.
But I just got to know that my ISP uses CGNAT. I contacted them but they won’t give me an exclusive public IP so in a couple of days I’ll have a new ISP.
Hoping it´ll work…

No. It´s just the ISP router combo.
