OMG Fix Android App ASAP

Bump. C’mon Plex fix this! The app is pretty much unusable.

My Android phone tends to stop playing while switching or starting songs in Plex. Is this what everyone else is seeing?

What happens to me is I’ll be listening to a playlist in my car and it’ll just stop playing right in the middle of the song.

This does not happen over WiFi. I was out on my deck the other night streaming over WiFi for hours and did not have a problem.

no samples, no description of your equipment, no logs, no steps to reproduce.

to be honest right now: i am a little fed up posting logs all the time. Plex should make longer update periods with a better quality control. this short update periods make it just way to much confusing and harder to troubleshoot. Audio was not a problem for me till around august… i am not signed in to a alpha early adopter programm and i am not paid to be in qa management…

but okay i try it for the last time because i f****** love plex:

Samsung Galaxy 5 Neo (SM-G903F) - Android 6.0.1
Server - Freenas (updated one week ago to last version)
App (also last version)

Problem: Playback stopps randomly (after about 10 Songs?) - Symptom: Wheel keeps spinning but album cover is visible, server is reachable, no problems, flawless library navigation, but audio does not start until i reinstall the app or restart my phone. i try to send a log per PM if asked for.

Server: Running latest version of PMS (whatever that is) on WD MyCloud Mirror
Client: Running latest version on Samsung Galaxy S9

Problem does not exist on Roku or Web client. Problem does not exist on Android when streaming over WiFi.

@Vectorgamer sorry if my post was rude. I see you’re trying here,
and I didn’t mean it that way.

Can we back up to this post from MovieFan.Plex and gather the details they asked for also?

@Radl25 how about a new topic, as you’re using FreeNAS plus Android Mobil.

My Plex server is currently hung (yes that’s another issue)…when I go home I’ll restart the service and when the music stops streaming I’ll upload the logs from both my phone and the server to this thread.

Thanks for hanging in there. I noticed a new Android Mobil beta is out.

For anyone stopping bye, this is a good article on maximizing your topic’s potential.

i also thought about that but it is a client issue, not server related as far as i can say. The problems came with the app update. Updating the server software did not fix the problem. I will have a look for older android releses and hope that it will be fine at some point.

Another thing with this app is it doesn’t display the correct song. This morning’s commute started with Van Halen and ended with Krokus. But displaying in the app right now is the Van Halen song I started with.

Old Van Halen or new Van Halen?

Stopped streaming again. Here are the logs from my phone and server. Tired of babysitting this stuff…

C’mon Plex let’s go

Thanks for the log. I finally see the error. I’ll let the devs know.

Edit - Can you provide me the XML for your metadata ID 275447.

Just call up any XML for any item. You will see near the beginning of the URL metadata/xxxx. Replace the XXXX with 275447.

Edit 2 - Sorry. Wrong ID. Should be 42828.

I don’t understand what your asking for. Please provide instructions.

In Plex Web, click on the ... for any music file. From the menu select Get Info. Then select View XML. You’ll see a page full of text. In the address bar you will see a URL. In there will be the words /metadata/ followed by a number. Change that number to 42828 and press enter. Take the resulting text, copy it into a text file and upload that text file here.

Yes that is the song that stopped playing.

metadata.txt (2.1 KB)

Thanks that helped. I think I see the bug. Will need to discuss with the devs.

So, this was happening to me for a bit on my Pixel 2. Then I upgraded to the Note 10+ and the problem seemed to go away – now it’s back.

It seems to play at least 1 song in its entirety, then usually stops while the 2nd song is playing. It will eventually move onto the next song, but the track information on the screen doesn’t update.

Also making it clear that this does not happen while the phone is connected to WiFi.

Uploading my logs as well:
