OMG Fix Android App ASAP

This has been my experience since an update on Sept 30. When shuffling any artist, android-plex will always get stuck after every track. Usually the wrong song is displayed (usually it’s the track before the track being shown in the player that is actually playing). On occasion, it will also get stuck replaying the same track multiple times.

It’s incredibly frustrating that the player is completely unusable at the moment unless I manually hit the skip button every 3 minutes.

Additional info:

  • I’m in offline mode using synced music
  • Listening via bluetooth
  • Android 10
  • From what I’ve seen so far, this does not happen when playing an album or artist without shuffle (edit: nvm, definitely happens when not shuffling too)
  • Have tried rebooting plex and my phone in the event that this was just some bad state
  • I’ve just switched to the beta version to see if the bug was fixed, but it persists

Any update as to when this is going to be fixed? I want to be able to stream Plex while I’m in my car and as of now it’s impossible. I promise once you fix this I will never update Plex on my phone again.

I was seeing similar behavior.

I’m now seeing improved behavior here, but occasionally a track will stop playing about 3-4 minutes into a track, but the progress bar continues ticking up.

Also, when a song is being buffered, the notification progress bar will track time, the song will start playing, and then the progress bar will restart. It makes me question whether the song is actually playing or not because sometimes there is not audio output at all, but it’s much rarer than it used to be.

This is all in my car with bluetooth, by the way.

going back to this Version (7.19.0) helped for me. Anything later does not work properly IMHO.

Do you know if there’s any way to rollback while keeping synced content? My server has only flac music but I sync at 320kbps so if there’s a way to avoid having to retranscode my library that would be ideal.

i think that i have to pull back my guess… 7.19 worked until today, same error occured and it looks like to happen only on my samsung S5 neo. so MAYBE my specific problem happens only on my phone…

How about an update Plex?

Rolled back to 7.19 and problem still exists. Happened twice on my way to way. First time the app stopped responding and I had to force stop the app and reopen. Second time it just quit playing and had to press play to resume. Latest logs uploaded.

Just wanted to say, same issues as many others have with the Plex Android App: Suddenly stops music playback in the middle of a song.
On the app, the playback actually doesn’t seem to stop but rather loop within 3 seconds without playing any sound.
No difference if the song was previously saved locally or directly streamed from the server, as I have seen it occurring on both over the weekend.

Issue this morning appeared around 07:05 a.m.

PlexApp: 7.22.1.12828
Server Version: 1.18.0.1913

After dozens of restarts of the app this morning I finally got it to play again but at around 07:11 a.m. I had the second phenomenon that usually comes after the stopping: Sudden skipps inside the song it’s currently playing.

As the logs say, the connection was lost but no other app seemed to have noticed such a loss. Switched to Google Play Music afterwards and no issues at all.

How comes that the app cannot just download the file completely and stream it from the cache?

Seeing the exact same problem. I can work around it by skipping just after a certain point where it is stuck. It will then play for a few minutes, seconds or songs (it ‘feels’ quite random how long it’s going to work), but has skips when it’s playing then.

Problem exists on Android 8 and 9, a Sony and Nokia device. It does not matter if the screen is on or off it seems. Problem only on cellular network.

Forgot to mention, I have a Pixel 2 with Android 10.

Can someone try

  • going into their PMS https://app.plex.tv/desktop settings (this is a real long shot),
  • Settings - Show Advanced - Network
  • Remove anything from the Terminate Sessions field and Save Changes
  • Test playback on their Android

Those settings worked around a stuttering problem on Chromecast, are easy enough to test, but I don’t have your hardware. They are both from Google so fingers crossed.

iOS has the exact problem.

Thanks for this suggestion. Unfortunately it didnt help.

Rolled my server all the way back to 1.13.0.5023 (was having issues with server hanging every few days). Rolled Android back to 1.17. Will report back with testing.

I’m not ready to say this worked, but I did just listen to an entire album on LTE without issue…

Of course, I see someone else says it didn’t help, so maybe just a coincidence.

An entire album that’s a win. :1st_place_medal:

Well from my experience there wasn’t a pattern as to when this bug would present itself. I could listen to two songs, 10 songs, 25 songs in a row (longer than a typical album) and then it would just stop playing.

Same here. Because of app caches current and next tracks, the issue is not related to the connection.
Last PMS (FreeBSD), last iOS app.

This is an android music topic, not iOS, yes?
The OP described problems over Verizon but not over WiFi. If you want to say
